The 5-Lakes Cruise from Malente follows a 12-kilometre route past Dieksee, Langensee, Behlersee, Höftsee and Edebergsee. Check before travelling which periods the cruise operates. Malente also offers canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Local rental stations provide equipment hire, introductions and guided tours.
At the 13-hectare WunderWelt Wasser site, visitors can explore aquatic habitats on raised wooden walkways that pass through wet meadows. Circular Walk and Rail Planning
The Holzberg Tower circular trail starts and ends at Malente station and offers views of Dieksee and Holstein Switzerland Nature Park. The Kiel–Lübeck regional railway stops at Plön, Malente and Eutin, supporting individual route planning. If you plan to travel by train, check the timetable before your trip; Malente station is both the starting point and the endpoint of the circular trail.
Architecture, Exhibitions and Local Flavours
Gut Rothensande is a Baroque estate with a manor house dating from 1911 that overlooks Kellersee. The Tews Kate Museum’s permanent exhibition features agricultural equipment, household furnishings and tools. For a break in Malente, Holstein Katenschinken (Holstein-style cured ham) is a local culinary speciality.
Culture in Ostholstein
In Ostholstein, the Eutin Festival stages a range of opera and operetta performances every summer as open-air events. The Ostholstein Museum in Eutin presents changing exhibitions as well as a permanent exhibition about Eutin during its heyday around 1800. During the winter season, Cismar Abbey in the municipality of Grömitz hosts concerts in its vaulted hall and presents changing exhibitions.
