Discover Warnsdorf: Nature, Culture and Golf
Accommodation in Warnsdorf
Warnsdorf brings together culture, nature and experiences that appeal to different interests when planning a trip. A former gardener’s house offers a glimpse into an older style of construction; golf offers two clearly distinct course formats, while Karls Erlebnis-Dorf features a musical bird show and a tractor ride. The Aalbeek lowland nature area is another attraction. When planning your stay, you can first consider whether you would rather focus on architecture, golf or the attractions at Karls.
The Gardener’s House and Building History
The former gardener’s house at Schloßstraße 8 is listed in the Ostholstein monuments register dated 1 February 2021 as a single-storey red-brick building dating from around 1910, with a fully hipped roof that has been converted for use. The building also includes the surrounding garden and a lime-tree hedge. A fully hipped roof has sloping roof surfaces on all sides; together with the single-storey design, this makes for a readily identifiable architectural form. The approximate period in which it was built and the garden’s design also give the former gardener’s house its own cultural character.
Golf with Two Different Course Formats
The public Maritim course is a 6-hole golf course. You can play there without a course-permission certificate or club membership. The Warnsdorf course, by contrast, is the longest of the three 9-hole courses. Long fairways, large bunkers and greens, numerous hedgerows and water hazards define its character. This makes it possible to compare the options based on specific features: six holes and no course-permission certificate required at the Maritim course, or nine holes and the course features described at the Warnsdorf course.
For planning purposes, the number of holes and playing requirements provide clear guidance, without implying a playing time. Those interested in golf can first decide which of these conditions matter to them. The details about the Warnsdorf course add the layout to the comparison: hedgerows and water hazards are among its different features, alongside fairways, bunkers and greens.
Bird Show and Tractor Ride at Karls
At Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Warnsdorf, the Piep-Show features numerous budgerigars in a bird aviary and a musical performance. The tractor ride offers a different kind of experience: visitors ride in tractor-shaped vehicles and can go around several times; it is billed as a family experience. Karls therefore offers two clearly different experiences side by side—the musical bird show and a ride in tractor-shaped vehicles.
The Erlebnis-Dorf also has a market featuring artisan workshops. As it may not always be open, check before your visit to see whether the market is being held then. When choosing between the Karls experiences, you can consider whether you are more interested in the Piep-Show or a ride on the tractor track; the market adds another focus to the offering.
Natural Areas and Landscaped Grounds
Parts of Warnsdorf lie within the Aalbeek lowland nature reserve. The consolidated ordinance protecting the reserve, dated 9 December 2015, includes these areas. The geographical statement is limited to parts of the village.
The Lindenhof estate is now operated as a fasting clinic under the name Schloss Warnsdorf. Its landscaped grounds include a lime-tree rondel, a woodland park, a rose garden, a flower terrace, large rhododendrons and fragrant paths. The grounds also include a circular path to the bathing area at Lake Hemmelsdorf. Alongside the protected natural area, landscaped gardens and paths therefore offer further points of interest to help you find your bearings.
