Klappholz is associated with the nature park hiking trail; the village’s history is reflected in historic traces ranging from a chronicle dating back to 1927 to a colonist house built in 1764. This brings nature and cultural experiences together when planning your trip. If you’re travelling with your family, you can tailor your choices to shared interests: Is walking the trails your priority, or would you rather explore the history of the village?

Choose hikes and trails

The nature park hiking trail associated with Klappholz is a marked route of around 160 kilometres through varied regional natural and cultural landscapes. Shorter stages and circular routes are also available. This lets you consider whether a longer section or a more compact circuit better suits your planned day of hiking. The total route length provides a guide for planning, but does not indicate how long any individual section takes.

Shorter circular routes and individually planned tours are also available in the nature park. These options offer a different perspective from the entire hiking route, giving you the opportunity to plan a shorter distance or a custom tour. Check local trail conditions before setting out. This helps you choose between a longer route, a shorter stage and a circular walk based on your plans.

History in a chronicle and museum

A handwritten chronicle of the Havetoft parish dating from 1927 covers the history of Havetoft, Klappholz and Hostrup. Separate sections are devoted to the settlement of Westscheide and the school in Klappholz. The chronicle thus connects the history of the village with that of the other two villages mentioned; settlement and schooling are explicitly part of this historical perspective.

A colonist house from Klappholz was built in 1764 and is now preserved at the Molfsee Open-Air Museum near Kiel. At the Klappholz House, visitors can watch traditional weaving demonstrations. The demonstrations are seasonal, so check the current programme before your visit. For culture enthusiasts, the house offers a tangible connection to a historic building and traditional craftsmanship, while the chronicle explores further local topics.
