Burglemnitz combines a distinctive settlement layout with an observation tower and regular events throughout the year. You can use these to shape your travel plans around different interests: explore the historic village streetscape, visit the tower on GalgenhĂĽgel, or plan your trip around an event.

Green village and protected church

Burglemnitz is laid out as a green village. The buildings are arranged around the church and the former manor. The church is a protected historic monument and is surrounded by a cemetery wall. The village layout and the protected building offer two related but distinct historical perspectives: the layout reflects the structure of the village, while the church is a specific historic monument. As you explore Burglemnitz, you can use these features as a guide to the village streetscape.

The observation tower on GalgenhĂĽgel

The observation tower on Galgenhügel is twelve metres high. On 17 August 2026, a telescope with a tripod was installed at the tower. Cyclists on the nearby “Schiefergebirgstrophy” mountain biking route often make a detour to the tower to enjoy the view and use the available rest facilities. This makes the viewpoint relevant to different travel interests: you can make it a destination in its own right or include it as a stop on a cycling detour. The view and the rest facilities are the specific reasons given for these frequent detours.

Festivals throughout the year

The traditional fair in Burglemnitz takes place in autumn; there is a bonfire for the summer solstice in June. The newly renovated hall hosts several dance events every year. The village therefore has seasonal festivals as well as recurring dance events. If a particular festival is important to your trip, check the exact event dates in advance. This lets you plan your travel dates around that interest without treating the different occasions as if they were the same.

Hiking country in the wider destination of Remptendorf

The wider destination of Remptendorf offers another perspective. The unified municipality covers around 100 square kilometres and is located in the heart of the Thuringian Slate Mountains/Upper Saale Nature Park. In the forested area around Remptendorf, hiking trails lead to viewpoints with expansive views across the mountains and valleys of the Thuringian Slate Mountains. Attentive hikers can also discover boundary stones from times gone by. The landscape and historical traces offer a different focus from Burglemnitz’s green village and observation tower.

Buildings in the regional context

The Ziemestal Bridge is also part of the wider destination of Remptendorf. The single-track viaduct, made entirely of steel and part of the Triptis–Marxgrün railway line in Thuringia, is 115 metres long and 32 metres high. It was built between 1893 and 1895 and officially belongs to the municipality of Remptendorf. The access restriction is important when planning your visit: unauthorised persons are generally prohibited from climbing or entering the bridge, as well as accessing the railway line.

Another historic building in the wider destination is in Gahma: the protected fortified church, which probably dates from the 12th century. Its possible construction period is considerably earlier than that of the Ziemestal Bridge. In the regional context, a religious building with an uncertain date and a later railway viaduct made entirely of steel can thus be considered as distinct themes in architectural history.
