Get to know Günthers through its distinctive local landmarks: a stone arched bridge crosses the Ulster; the local scene also includes Brückenstraße and a well-maintained green space with a fountain and a place to relax. Günthers is located directly on the B 278, around 3 km northwest of the centre of Tann (Rhön).

Village Life and Cycling Routes in Günthers

A lime tree and the village community centre are part of the centre of Günthers. The building is used for village celebrations and the traditional fair dance. The tent fair is also a regular part of village life: it takes place every two years and is considered the village community’s most important celebration. If you are planning your trip specifically around the fair, check the date locally before you travel.

Günthers is connected to two cycling routes: the Rhön Cycle Route and the Ulstertal Cycle Route. Routes and signage may change; check both before setting out. This gives you a clear choice for planning between village life and cycling as your main focus, without confusing the two local cycling routes.

Culture and Nature in Tann (Rhön)

The wider destination of Tann (Rhön) brings together nature and culture. Tann lies on the edge of the Hessian Rhön, in the heart of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve and Rhön Nature Park. The Rhöner Museumsdorf open-air museum preserves regional traditions and architecture. Its historic farmsteads offer an insight into how the Rhön’s ancestors lived 200 to 250 years ago. At the Natural History Museum, 26 dioramas showcase the characteristic landscape of the biosphere reserve and its distinctive flora and fauna.

Tann’s architectural history can also be traced through specific buildings. The Elf-Apostel-Haus is the oldest house on Marktstraße in Tann and was built around 1500. The castles of Tann include the Red, Blue and Yellow Castles. Built between 1513 and 1693, they represent different branches of the noble family. The castle complex is also among Tann’s historic buildings; the town attributes its significance to the influence of the knightly family “derer von und zu der Tann”.

For hiking, the western route of the approximately 180 km premium long-distance trail “Der Hochrhöner”® passes through Tann’s old town and by museums, the castle and the market square. The Ulstertal Cycle Route passes through Tann and follows the river, mostly on level or downhill stretches, largely along the former Ulstertal Railway line. Tann therefore offers a described hiking route and a cycling connection with different route characteristics to help you plan.

For stargazing, Tann has the “Sternenkino” on Hundsbacher Weg, a spot close to town with a rotating wave-shaped lounger and an information board. The Schlenderweinprobe combines a guided tour from the museum village via the Natural History Museum and town gate to various historic sights with a tasting of different wines. Booking arrangements may change; check the details in advance. The “Museumsgeister im Rhöner Museumsdorf” tour lasts about 1.5 hours and can be booked for groups of ten or more. Here, too, you should check the booking details in advance. Fishing—specifically fly fishing—is generally permitted in the section of the Ulster at Tann; you will need a valid fishing licence. Check the licensing rules before taking part.

Focus your search on the place and experiences that will shape your plans.
