Biebertal brings together the Gladenbach Uplands, a rich local history and trails with Celtic connections. Its six districts lie around the 500-metre-high Dünsberg; mountains, meadow valleys and mixed beech and oak forests shape the landscape. The museums offer insights into the ways people once lived and worked, while the hiking options highlight Celtic and Roman connections. When planning your trip, you can prioritise nature and cultural themes according to your interests.

Landscape and history in the terrain

At Vetzberg Castle, architecture and topography come together in a striking detail: the castle stands on the summit of the extinct volcano of the same name, Vetzberg. This connects a specific site in local history with a geological feature. If landforms interest you as much as historic buildings, this connection offers a particularly clear point of reference.

Museums and local history

The Hof Haina Farmhouse Museum has been located since 1973 on the highest of the five farms, while the Celtic settlement was built in 2005/2006 directly behind the Celtic Gate. At the Rodheim-Bieber Local History Museum, the bakehouse was incorporated into the museum in 2011. The Frankenbach Local History Museum presents documents and objects from the village’s former agricultural and commercial working life. The museums each focus on different aspects: Hof Haina and the Celtic settlement are described through specific places and buildings, while Frankenbach focuses on documents and objects from the world of work in earlier times. This gives you a basis for choosing: a focus on buildings and places, or insights into agricultural and commercial work.

Hiking trails with Celtic connections

The Celtic and Roman Trail is a Lahn Facette, meaning a short tour along the Lahn Hiking Trail. The Celtic Hike is a circular trail with 25 stations about the Celtic period and videos accessible via QR code. The route’s classification as a short tour, its circular layout, the number of stations and the digital content are all specific points to help you choose. If you value a hiking trail with many stations and additional videos, these features stand out on the Celtic Hike; the Celtic and Roman Trail is identified by its role as a short tour along the Lahn Hiking Trail.
