Biersdorf combines a layered iron history with an 18th-century half-timbered building and a cycling route that passes through several towns. In the town centre, traffic-calmed streets, shops and restaurants invite you to stroll and linger. This gives you several different options for planning your trip: architectural and industrial history, a walk around town or a longer bike ride. Which of these aspects you want to shape your stay may also influence your choice of accommodation.

Traces of the Iron History

The Füsseberg mine in Biersdorf was first mentioned in 1708; it was the largest iron ore mine in the former Daaden district. Biersdorf also had an iron smelter in the 18th century. Ore mining and smelting represent two distinct aspects of the area’s iron history. The Biersdorf Hüttenweiher pond remains a reminder of the former ironworks. An entrance to a tunnel belonging to the former Füsseberg iron ore mine, which is associated with Biersdorf, lies on Erzstraße (L 280), from Daaden towards Betzdorf.

Historic District and Half-Timbered Houses

The historic monument register of the Altenkirchen district, dated 30 October 2024, lists the following areas of the town centre as a historic district: at Obere Mühlhof, house numbers 1–31 (odd numbers) and 2, 4 and 10; at Werrbachstraße, 3–13 (odd numbers) and 10–20 (even numbers); and Im Krain 1 and 2. The designation therefore applies to specific streets and house numbers, rather than to Biersdorf as a whole. At Am Glaskopf 2 stands a residential barn house with a low outbuilding dating from the 18th century, built using half-timbering and partly clad in slate. The historic district and the residential barn house offer two different perspectives on the area’s architectural history: a defined part of the town and the features of an individual building.

Town Centre, Railway and Cycle Route

The Daadetalbahn runs hourly between Betzdorf and Daaden and stops at Biersdorf. If you plan to travel by train, check the timetable for your chosen travel date.

A cycle route just over 20 km long passes through Schutzbach, Niederdreisbach, Daaden—including the district of Biersdorf—and Emmerzhausen, ending in the centre of Lippe, a district of Burbach. There, it connects to the Siegerland Cycle Route (R 41) towards Haiger and Siegen. For planning your day, the railway and cycle route serve different purposes: the train serves Biersdorf between Betzdorf and Daaden, while the cycle route passes through several towns before connecting to the route in Lippe.

Plan Your Stay

When planning days together, the difference in pace is worth considering: a walk around the town centre and a longer bike ride offer different kinds of outings. Then check the specific accommodation address against your plans so that your choice suits the routes you actually intend to take.
