Discover Ingersleben
Accommodation in Ingersleben
Ingersleben combines mill history and village culture. Ostingersleben, a district of the municipality, has a village church and a post mill. Local cultural life also includes a Western club and a line dancing group, which are associated with village festivals. These different themes give you ideas for planning your stay around your interests.
Mill history in Ostingersleben
The Ostingersleben post mill was built in 1783. It was taken out of service in the early 1970s, and restoration of its exterior began in 1983. Its history can therefore be explored through both its former use and its later restoration.
The preserved equipment includes a grain mill, a grist mill, cleaning equipment, a roller mill and a sack hoist. These details also make the mill interesting as a technical installation: in addition to its year of construction, the various pieces of equipment tell the story of the steps involved in processing grain. Anyone interested in crafts and the history of technology will find a tangible local point of interest here.
Village culture, flower bulbs and regional cuisine
Cultural life in Ostingersleben is shaped by more than historic buildings alone. A Western club and a line dancing group are associated with the village festivals. This complements the mill history with community and celebratory themes rooted in local life.
A horticultural business in Ostingersleben is associated with Dutch flower bulbs. The local events calendar includes a bulb market and an open-farm event; the business also has a small local history museum. Here, horticulture, an event centered on flower bulbs and local history come together. These different themes give you an impression of the variety of local points of interest, so your stay need not be limited to a single historic landmark.
Regional cuisine is also part of the local scene: the Ingersleben LandFrauen work with children to prepare regional and seasonal dishes. A summer cycling tour with visits to nearby places is also among the local activities on offer. Alongside mill and village culture, this offers different interests to explore, including community activities, food and exercise.
The Börde as a wider setting
The Börde district offers a distinctive landscape setting: it stretches from the fertile Börde in the south, Germany’s largest contiguous region of black earth soil, to the meadows and wetlands of the Drömling in the north. In the middle, wooded ridges and the Colbitz-Letzlingen Heath shape the landscape. The heath stretches from the Altmark in the north to the Ohre and the Mittelland Canal in the south, near Magdeburg; it is home to Europe’s largest contiguous lime forest.
Cycling and rail connections are also part of this wider setting. The fifth stage of the Aller Cycle Route runs from Oebisfelde to Eggenstedt and passes through Marienborn. There are good public transport connections for this stage; Marienborn has a railway station.
The district offers a range of other cultural highlights. The “Romanesque Road” includes ten sites here; castles, fortresses and manor houses also shape the historic cultural landscape. Hundisburg Castle is one of Saxony-Anhalt’s most important rural Baroque palaces and has historic gardens and parkland. Its Baroque garden is distinguished by its symmetry and detailed garden design.
A technical counterpoint is provided by the Hundisburg Brickworks Industrial Monument, with its brickworks and technology museum. Its work areas include brick production using the hand-striking method, a coarse ceramics workshop for shaping and pottery, a building materials workshop and a carpentry shop. The historic narrow-gauge railway offers visitors a ride of about two kilometers past historic kilns, a bucket-chain excavator and the former clay pit. When planning, you can choose between landscape, garden design, architectural history and technology as different themes to explore in the Börde.
