Lohsa is surrounded by lakes and ponds; the town also offers opportunities for activity and culture. You can shape your trip around your own interests: water, a paved circular route and local history each offer a different focus.

The lake landscape around Lohsa

Silbersee, Dreiweiberner See, fish ponds, Scheibesee and Knappensee surround Lohsa. Several of these bodies of water are part of the developing chain of lakes in the Lusatian Lake District. Dreiweiberner See covers 286 hectares. Its water quality is considered excellent because the lake was filled from the nearby Kleine Spree. It was designated a popular swimming lake in Lohsa in 2005.

Visitors can use the beaches at Weißkollm and Lohsa; boating is also one of the activities at Dreiweiberner See. Lohsa beach has beachside food and drink facilities and a wooden pirate ship. There is also a modern motorhome pitch by the lake. This means visitors can enjoy several different experiences at one lake: the beaches, boating and the facilities at Lohsa beach all offer different reasons to explore the lake.

Church and local history

In 1892, two galleries in Lohsa church were painted with Bible verses in German and Sorbian. Two coloured windows on the east side were donated in 1900. The Ladegast-Rühlmann organ is considered an important historical example of High Romantic organ building. It has 18 stops, two manuals, a pedal keyboard and 1,100 pipes. The bilingual verses, coloured windows and technical features of the organ offer different perspectives on the church.

The Zejler-Smoler-Haus has an exhibition dedicated to places and settlements around Lohsa that disappeared as a result of lignite mining. For those interested in culture, this creates a shift between the church’s historical features and the stories of places that no longer exist. Nearby, you can also visit the remains of the former Weißkollm castle and park complex, including the castle ponds and pheasantry ponds.
