Valleys, History and Views in Striegistal

Striegistal brings together trails through the Striegis valleys, historic buildings, viewpoints and summer recreation. You can combine the landscape and local history during one stay: on foot along trails with natural surfaces, while exploring historic places, or in summer at the natural swimming pool in Pappendorf. The individual places offer different highlights, from valley hikes and views to culture.

Historic Places and Viewpoints

In Pappendorf, the protected historic Stone Bridge spans the Große Striegis. It dates from around 1720. You can also visit the Caspas David Friedrich View at the bridge. Here, a protected structure and a viewpoint come together at a named location—an opportunity to discover Pappendorf with an eye to both its history and its landscape.

The Striegistal Observation Tower in Böhrigen offers a different highlight. Carl Gustav Leonhardt built it in 1890/91. The Striegistal Observation Tower Association (Aussichtsturm Striegistal e.V.) was founded in 2009 to preserve the cultural monument and make it accessible again. The tower has been open to visitors since 2011 and offers views across Central Saxony and the foothills of the Ore Mountains. Check current visiting arrangements before your visit.

The historic Hohe Stein also combines views with a place to rest: from there, visitors can look out over Striegistal. The HeumĂĽhle is considered one of the oldest historic buildings in Striegistal. Near the HeumĂĽhle in Mobendorf, you can see former mill channels and remnants of historic gold washing. Together, these places offer different ways to experience the landscape and local history.

On Foot Through the Striegis Valleys

The hiking trails in the Striegis valleys lie within a conservation area. They have natural surfaces and are not cycling or riding trails; motor vehicles are not permitted on them. Check local conditions before setting out and follow the signs. This will help you plan according to the actual trail conditions and on-site notices.

In Mobendorf, there is a large hiking car park on Zur WiesenmĂĽhle, near the entrance to the GroĂźe Striegis valley. It provides a specific landmark for planning; check the parking situation on site. The combination of nature trails, valley views and individual historic destinations makes a visit on foot different from one focused mainly on buildings or viewpoints.

Summer Recreation and Accommodation

The natural swimming pool at Hirschbachtal in Pappendorf invites you to relax in summer. It adds a seasonal highlight to the hiking and cultural attractions. If you plan to include it in your stay, focus your plans on the summer season and check current visiting arrangements.

Striegistal offers local restaurants and guesthouses, as well as accommodation options. Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz are each about 30 minutes away. This approximate travel-time reference complements the stay’s landscape-focused character: the trails in the valleys, viewpoints and historic buildings offer different ideas for how to spend your time in the area.

In the wider destination of Central Saxony, the Historic Settlement Procession takes place annually in the Striegis valleys. If this event is part of your travel plans, check the date for your travel year.
