Beerheide lies at about 710 metres above sea level, on the watershed between the Zwickauer Mulde and the Roter Göltzsch. In suitable weather, views to the west and north extend as far as the heights of the Thüringer Grenzrücken. Its high elevation and varied range of nature and cultural themes give your trip planning a practical framework: you can decide whether you would rather spend time outdoors, experience the Vogtland Lake or explore local traditions.

Rocks, forest and water

Röthelstein, a quartzite rock with an open-air stage, is very close to Beerheide. The traditional Whitsun singing event has been held at the rock every year on Whit Sunday since 1953. If you are planning a visit for the event, check the dates in advance. This lets you combine a nature experience with a cultural event without assuming the event date has been confirmed.

The Vogtland Lake is an artificial reservoir of about six hectares. It was built between 1935 and 1937 for flood protection and is located in the forest between Beerheide, Grünheide Forest Park and Jägersgrün. In summer, it is used as a swimming lake. If swimming is part of your plans, check the current conditions and access in advance. Another natural attraction is the Gahlenbach meadow, designated a nature monument, in the Beerheide district of the town of Auerbach/Vogtland.

Hiking, cycling and riding trails

The Beerheide Hiking Club recommends twelve hiking routes to visitors. Information boards are located at three hiking car parks: by the Waldsportplatz, at the Beerheide cultural centre and at Beerheide village square. Beerheide is also surrounded by a well-developed network of paved cycle paths, inviting you to enjoy leisure cycling.

You can also explore the area on horseback: there is a well-developed, signposted network of riding trails. A separate option is carriage rides through the forests of Beerheide and the Vogtland, offered by Reichelt Riding Stables. Check dates and availability before you arrive. Since 1 October 2025, the riding stables have no longer offered regular riding lessons for children or adults.

Local history and relaxation

One landmark in the town’s history is the cemetery chapel, built in 1890 at the same time as the cemetery. For guided exercise, visitors to Beerheide can learn the correct Nordic walking technique from medically trained professionals and borrow suitable poles. Check the availability of this service in advance. Local wellness offerings include treatments with honey, chocolate or aromatic oils, revitalising massages and natural remedies such as peat; check in advance whether your preferred treatments are available.

Beerheide as a starting point for your plans

Beerheide is accessible via the A72 motorway. There are twelve fully equipped motorhome pitches in the town. The motorhome site has electrical hook-ups, water and wastewater facilities, a Wi-Fi hotspot and a vending machine in the Finnhütte. As operating details may change, check the facilities and availability before you arrive.

If you are looking for accommodation in Beerheide, first consider what you want your trip to focus on: hiking or cycling routes, a summer visit to the Vogtland Lake, riding trails, or culture and relaxation. If you are travelling with other people, it can help to decide on these priorities together.
