Pöhl offers two different perspectives on the reservoir: a boat trip along its shores and views from Mosenturm across the wooded surroundings and the dam. This lets you plan your stay around different interests in sightseeing. The boat trip passes several named points; the viewpoint offers a different focus. Both are part of the tourist attractions around Pöhl.

Along both shores by boat

Boat trips on the Pöhl Reservoir follow both shores. Along the route, they pass the Gunzenberg campsite, the Neuensalz and Thoßfell forebays, the nudist beach and the peninsula with its castle, before returning to the vicinity of the dam. This means the trip takes in more than individual points along the shore: it connects them into a route along both sides of the body of water.

If you plan this trip, check the timetable: sailing times vary by season and may change. Checking the latest information before your visit will help you plan your outing.

Finding your way at the boat landing

The boat landing near the dam has a tourist information point, public toilets and a bistro. It is wheelchair accessible, and accessible parking spaces are also available. The nearest public parking lots are at the water sports centre and the dam wall. This means the area around the landing offers practical points of reference for planning a visit to the reservoir.

Some facilities may be temporarily unavailable. If necessary, check before your visit whether the services you need are available.

Mosenturm as a viewpoint

The Mosenturm viewpoint is part of Pöhl’s municipal tourism offering. From there, you can look out over the wooded surroundings and the dam of the Pöhl Reservoir. Mosenturm therefore offers a different kind of outing from the boat trip along the shore: here, the focus is on views of the forest and dam, while the boat trip passes several points along both shores. Conditions at the viewpoint may vary; if necessary, check in advance if you are planning your visit around it.

More to explore in the wider Vogtland destination

The wider Vogtland destination offers further, distinct travel interests. Musical instruments have been made in the Upper Vogtland for over 350 years. The Markneukirchen Musical Instrument Museum displays the world’s largest playable violin. The Sparkasse Vogtland Arena Klingenthal adds a technical highlight: it is one of Europe’s most modern large ski jumping hills. A visitor train takes visitors to the 32-metre-high take-off tower, where they can enjoy views over Klingenthal.

In Bad Elster, the Royal Grounds combine extensive historic parks with spa architecture of cultural and historical significance. Bad Elster also has ten mineral springs and natural peat. Another landmark in the Vogtland is the Göltzsch Viaduct, one of the world’s two largest brick bridges. These destinations represent different regional highlights: technical facilities, historic landscape design and striking structures.

For longer hikes, the 225-kilometre Vogtland Panorama Trail is another regional point of interest. Most cycling routes in the Vogtland are close to a bus or train stop. Bicycles can be carried free of charge on regional public transport, subject to vehicle capacity. This information relates to the wider Vogtland destination and should not be confused with the local attractions in Pöhl.

Vogtland cuisine also offers discoveries of its own: green dumplings are made from raw, grated potatoes. Regular potato tastings are held at Gündel’s Kulturstall in Reichenbach, and there is a potato market there in autumn. If you would like to plan your visit around a potato tasting or the potato market, check the latest dates in advance.
