Dassendorf offers several reasons to stay: the Church of Reconciliation with its distinctive artworks, cultural attractions in the town, and opportunities for golf and sports. When choosing accommodation, consider whether local culture, golf or excursions in the wider destination of the Duchy of Lauenburg will be the focus of your trip.

Church of Reconciliation and local culture

The Church of Reconciliation was built in 1960 to designs by architects Barbara and Wolfgang Vogt. Four stained-glass windows depict Christmas or Epiphany, Good Friday, Easter and Ascension Day. Together, the images form an arc spanning key moments in the Christian festive calendar. The altar cross is also an artistic creation: its enamelwork symbolizes the four Evangelists. Church tours can be arranged by appointment through the parish office. If you would like to visit the church, arrange a time with the parish office in advance.

Dassendorf’s cultural offerings include a municipal library and adult education activities. Events are organized by the local cultural association, the seniors’ advisory council and local clubs. The multi-purpose hall hosts events organized by the cultural association; after the summer holidays, an open-air brunch is also held there every year. Since individual events may change, it is best to check the current dates if you are planning your stay around them.

Golf, sports and distinctive local features

The Golf-Club am Sachsenwald offers an 18-hole championship course and a 6-hole short course that can be played without membership. The club welcomes guests and beginners and offers taster courses as well as golf proficiency courses. The choice ranges from a short course to a championship course, and from an introduction to golf to proficiency courses. Before your arrival, check the current course packages and access rules. The Ristorante am Riesenbett, affiliated with the golf club, serves Italian cuisine; as its offerings may change, check before your visit if you are interested.

TuS Dassendorf also offers a range of sports: activities take place in a former tennis hall, a school sports hall and on three sports fields, including an artificial turf pitch. Another distinctive local feature is a pair of giant beds at the edge of the forest, opposite the golf club entrance. Alongside the church imagery, they give the town an archaeological theme.

In the wider destination of the Duchy of Lauenburg

Looking at the wider destination of the Duchy of Lauenburg opens up a broader natural setting. Forest covers 26 percent of the district, which includes 48 lakes. It is also home to Sachsenwald, the largest contiguous forest area in Schleswig-Holstein. Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park offers hiking trails, observation towers, nature trails and places to rest. Visitors can hike, cycle, canoe and swim in forest lakes there; there are also four signposted cycling routes.

Guided excursions with experts are also part of the nature park’s offerings. They cover the district’s flora and fauna as well as its cultural history. In Mölln, the Uhlenkolk Environmental Centre offers nature-based educational and experiential programs for kindergartens, school classes, families and adults. If you would like to include these regional offerings in your trip, check the current dates and opening hours before planning a specific visit.
