Rüdeheck is shaped by water: the Mühlenteich, also known as Rüder See, lies right next to the village. Its history dates back to the monks of Rudekloster, who dammed it. Visitors can observe birds and water spiders at the Mühlenteich. This gives a stay a clear connection to nature. The municipality of Glücksburg also offers forests, prehistoric traces, hiking trails and culture.

Forest, coast and Stone Age traces

Friedeholz stretches across the municipality of Glücksburg from the town centre to Schausende, reaches the sea and covers around 300 hectares. There is a wild boar enclosure where visitors can linger and watch the animals. A nature playground adds to the woodland experience. Those interested in early history will also find ten prehistoric megalithic tombs in Friedeholz: the several-kilometre-long Dolmen Trail leads to them. This makes it possible to combine a hike with a specific archaeological destination.

The Holnis peninsula offers a different landscape. A 400-hectare nature reserve stretches across the municipality there and is protected by NABU Schleswig-Holstein. A 10-kilometre hiking trail runs across the peninsula and through the nature reserve of the same name. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Compare trails and experiences

The 4.2-kilometre Brusmark circular trail offers a different route: it passes the artefact Climate Park and returns to the starting point along the shore of the Rüder See. At the Climate Park, visitors can experience energy interactively at more than 40 stations. Based on the stated distances, the Brusmark circular trail is the shorter of the two routes compared with the 10-kilometre hiking trail on Holnis. They also differ in their landscapes and destinations: the lake shore and Climate Park on one route, the peninsula and nature reserve on the other.

An activity at the Mühlenteich also comes with specific requirements. Fishing is possible there; fish species that can be caught include pike, bream, eels, tench and rudd. Both a valid fishing licence and an additional fishing permit are required. If you want to plan your stay around this, you can include fishing alongside nature watching and hiking destinations in your daily plans.

Weigh up culture and accommodation location

The history of the municipality includes Glücksburg Castle, which was built between 1582 and 1587. This offers another historical point of interest alongside the Mühlenteich’s connection to the monastery. Together with the forest, coastal landscape and various trails, there is a range of different things to focus on, although not all the experiences are of the same kind.

If you are also planning hikes, nature destinations or cultural visits, consider the relevant places in the municipality of Glücksburg when choosing a location. Compare the specific location of your accommodation with the places that matter to your trip.

The Munkbrarup-Rüde Rüdeheck bus stop is served by bus route 21. Check departure times before travelling so you can plan your journey accordingly.
