Discover Hohenleuben
Accommodation in Hohenleuben
Hohenleuben brings together a museum, local association history and scenic landscapes around Reichenfels Castle Ruins. Since 1950, historical collections and a library have been preserved and displayed at Reichenfels Museum on the grounds. A small garden of traditional medicinal and folklore plants has been created among the former castle walls. Nearby, the marked WeiĂźer Stein viewpoint complements the historical attractions with views across the landscape.
Reichenfels Museum: Collections and association history
Purpose-built Reichenfels Museum is located on the grounds of the castle ruins. It houses the collections of the Vogtland Association for the Study of Antiquities, founded in Hohenleuben in 1825. The Natural History and Local Heritage Museum also features numerous historical exhibits. In Hohenleuben, the museum’s location, the association’s collections and the history of its founding are thus closely connected.
As an educational venue outside the school setting, the museum offers engaging guided tours that complement classroom learning. They focus specifically on the prehistory and early history of Thuringia and the region, as well as regional fauna, geology and legends. The range of topics therefore extends from early history and natural history to local stories. This variety gives families a concrete starting point for considering different interests when planning a trip.
Castle ruins, a small garden and viewpoints
A small garden of traditional medicinal and folklore plants has been created among the walls of the former castle. WeiĂźer Stein is near Hohenleuben and is marked as a viewpoint; it stands at an elevation of 441 m, with a seating area just behind it. The route described leads from the market square in Hohenleuben to this spot in just under 1.4 km. This is distinct from the panoramic view that opens out across the Triebestal valley from Reichenfels Castle Ruins: WeiĂźer Stein and the castle are two separate vantage points for viewing the landscape.
