When planning a trip to Uttenweiler, you can choose from a range of focuses: a walk on Bussen, water and play at the outdoor swimming lake, views towards the Alps, and religious and architectural history. The Creation Trail is an easy route with a walking time of around 45 minutes, while the outdoor swimming lake combines a bathing lake with play and sports facilities. Ahlener Höhe and the Ahlener Oak add views and nature and culture themes. You can decide in advance whether exercise, water, scenery or culture should play a greater role in your stay.

Trail and pilgrimage site on Bussen

The Creation Trail runs around Bussen. It starts near the car park at Gasthaus Steiner and ends 20 metres below Bussen Church. The route is considered easy to walk; the walking time is around 45 minutes, although conditions on the trail may vary. Use the approximate walking time as a guide and allow some flexibility. Bussen is also an active Marian pilgrimage site. A walk here brings together two distinct interests: outdoor exercise and a religious connection to Bussen.

Views and outdoor nature

From Ahlener Höhe, you can see across Lake Federsee to the Alps. The public recreation area includes a barbecue and fire pit, a weather shelter, and playground and fitness equipment. Local rules apply to use of the barbecue and fire pit. So alongside the far-reaching views, you can also include play and exercise in your outing plans.

The Ahlener Oak is a natural monument over 700 years old. It contains a wayside shrine with a Baroque figure of Christ. This brings together a natural monument and sacred artwork in one place. Walking and cycling options include viewpoints towards the Alps and routes along streams or lakes. For planning your day, this means a choice of different landscapes: far-reaching views on the one hand and waterside routes on the other. When looking for places to stay, you can also consider whether you prefer outings with views or routes along streams and lakes.

Water and play

Uttenweiler’s outdoor swimming lake features a one-hectare bathing lake, a long sandy beach, slides and diving boards. There is a shallow water play area for children. Beach volleyball, badminton courts and recreational play equipment expand the activities beyond swimming. This gives you a choice of ways to spend a day by the water: swimming, playing or taking part in sports. The shallow water play area is specifically for children, while beach volleyball and badminton offer a different focus.

Places of remembrance and architectural history

The Sebastian Sailer Memorial exhibits pictures and sacred objects from Sebastian Sailer’s time. Visits are possible by prior appointment, so arrange this part of your itinerary before you arrive. The Schlossmühle can be visited; its half-timbered structure is attributed to a reconstruction by Abbot Ulrich von Stein. The mill offers a different way to explore history than the memorial: here the focus is on half-timbering and reconstruction, while the memorial features pictures and sacred objects from Sailer’s time.

The Bussen ruins were restored to make panoramic views from the keep possible. The area around Bussen is also an ancient settlement region with Celtic square enclosures. The Lake Federsee region is only a few kilometres from Uttenweiler and contains evidence of Stone Age finds. Those interested in regional history can explore several different points of interest: traces of Stone Age finds in the Lake Federsee region, Celtic square enclosures around Bussen, and religious and architectural places of remembrance.
