Lehenweiler combines local history with natural attractions on Venusberg. The village’s development, the Brunnenberg juniper heath, and various hiking and cycling trails offer different ways to shape your stay. If you’re looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether local history, walking trails, or a cycling tour will define your days. The waypoints and landscapes offer practical guidance for choosing excursions to suit your interests.

History and Events

On June 7, 1709, Duke Eberhard Ludwig granted two veteran mounted guardsmen the right to settle in the “Lehen” area. This settlement developed into what is now Lehenweiler. The Alte Schule community center is located in Lehenweiler at Hauptstraße 2, 71134 Aidlingen. In 2026, among other events, the Swabian dialect theater group “D’Rankbachl” from Renningen performed its comedy “Dr Lottogwenn” there on January 23 and 24.

On Saturday, February 14, 2026, “Fasnet em Laia” began at 3:00 p.m. at the Alte Schule with a children’s carnival and a procession through the village. The children’s carnival continued until around 5:30 p.m. The theater date and the Fasnet program show two different sides of the local events calendar in 2026, from Swabian dialect to an afternoon for children.

Juniper Heath and Nature on Venusberg

The Venusberg nature reserve can be reached from Lehenweiler; hiking car parks are signposted there. If you’re travelling at the weekend, please also note that the small road between Aidlingen and Lehenweiler is closed to car traffic. Check local restrictions before setting out.

Near Lehenweiler lies the extensive natural monument “Wacholderheide Brunnenberg,” which covers about three hectares. Nearby, on Venusberg, a nature trail for children and adults follows easy paths through the juniper heath. This lets you distinguish between a natural monument near Lehenweiler and a trail through the juniper heath on Venusberg.

Comparing Hiking and Cycling Routes

The “Mit dem Schäfer ziehen” hiking route reaches Lehenweiler after crossing the K1063 road; its section marked with a blue diamond runs alongside a wet meadow. After a short, steep climb, the Land.Tour Venusberg reaches the municipal road between Aidlingen and Lehenweiler, then continues along a farm track towards Venusberg. The routes can therefore be identified by different features: one focuses on the wet meadow and K1063, the other on the climb, road, and farm track.

There is also a cycling route to the Venusberg nature reserve: the “RadL Radtour 3: Venusberg” crosses the plateau at the “Lehenweiler” signpost. After turning off towards the nature reserve, the route includes a rest area with views to the south, east, and west. The rest area provides a specific viewpoint on the cycling tour; the directions listed indicate what makes the view from there distinctive.

Aidlingen as a Regional Setting

In the wider destination of Aidlingen, more than half of the municipal area is protected as a nature reserve or landscape conservation area. The Venusberg nature reserve covers around 115 hectares and is the largest nature reserve in the Böblingen district. The heights of Venusberg offer good views. These details add the broader landscape setting of Aidlingen to Lehenweiler’s local natural attractions.

The wider destination of Aidlingen also has a cultural attraction: the East German Heritage Room of the Federation of Expellees is on the second floor of the Hopfenhaus in Aidlingen. Its collection focuses on Carpathian German traditional costumes from the Upper Spiš region. This allows you to plan nature experiences in Lehenweiler separately from other regional attractions in Aidlingen.

Ideas for Your Stay

For additional landscape and cultural attractions, you can also consider Aidlingen as a wider destination. The different features of the routes can help you choose excursions according to your interests; whether a route with a wet meadow, a short, steep climb, or a plateau better suits your plans depends on what you’re looking for.
