In Kürnbach, wine traditions and local history sit alongside nature experiences with a range of different focuses. The wine village and street festival give the Market Square a special role; the lakeside trail leads from the historic town center to Schlosswiesensee, while the forest nature trail explores topics related to nature and landscape. You can therefore plan your trip around whether you are more interested in events, history, a path to the lake or a circular trail in the forest.

Market Square and Regional Events

Kürnbach’s wine village was launched in September 1995, at the same time as the Kraichgau-Stromberg Wine Route opened. The Market Square provides the setting for the wine village. Kürnbach’s street festival is also associated with this location: it has been celebrated in the historic town center since 1975, marking the completion of the Market Square. If you are interested in local history and traditions, this is a concrete point of connection.

The annual nature park market offers food from direct marketers in the nature park region. The stalls are complemented by an accompanying program that includes, among other things, picture-book cinema, hands-on activities and music. Check the current event dates before your visit. The Rogate farmers’ market combines a farmers’ and arts-and-crafts market with regional specialties and a wide range of exhibitors.

For 2026, an offering from GenussScheune was planned to begin in May: visitors were to discover regional food, do their weekly shopping and enjoy small delicacies with a glass of wine. Check the current schedule before visiting. Together with the markets, this creates a culinary focus that includes both shopping for regional products and sampling small delicacies.

Lakeside Trail or Forest Nature Trail?

The lakeside trail leads from the historic town center past the Adventure Golf Park to Schlosswiesensee. The KB4 lakeside trail is signposted from the Market Square. This provides a clearly described route from the town center toward the lake, while the forest nature trail has a different focus.

The forest nature trail begins about 500 m east of the town center, directly behind the “Morforster Weg” hikers’ parking area at the end of Austraße. It is a circular trail about 4 km long; an overview board at the starting point provides information about its route. More than 60 signs cover, among other things, tree and plant species, the age of trees, field names, boundary stones and forest pests. For those traveling together, these topics offer plenty of specific opportunities to talk about nature and landscape along the way.

The two trails are easy to distinguish by their format: the lakeside trail leads from the historic town center to Schlosswiesensee, while the forest nature trail is a circular route linking various information stations. If you mainly want to reach a particular destination, the lakeside trail provides a clear direction; if you want to explore the topics on the signs, the forest nature trail focuses on its circular route and the information along it.

Panoramic Views and Local History

A viewpoint on the forest nature trail features a panoramic map and views across the Kraichgau. The map and views of the landscape complement the topics covered by the signs with a broader geographical perspective. In the forest on Kürnbach’s Altenberg, original foundations of a Chartaque are also preserved, about 50 m from the “Weitblick” installation.

There are also different ways to learn about local history. As a private offering, local guide Hans Wilhelm shares stories about the distinctive features of the former Hesse-Württemberg and later Hesse-Baden condominium on a historical walk. The Historic Town Tour covers more than 40 stops and introduces buildings as well as historical figures. Alongside nature, local architectural history and the town’s distinctive past are other interests to consider when planning your trip.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Itinerary

If you are considering Kürnbach as a destination for a stay, first think about which experiences you want to focus on. The Market Square is the setting for the wine village and street festival, as well as the starting point for the signposted KB4 lakeside trail; the forest nature trail begins east of the town center. This lets you search according to the activities that interest you in Kürnbach rather than using only a general search term.
