In Ingersheim, a historic vineyard landscape, views across the Neckar Valley and cultural discoveries come together. The Schlossberg circular trail leads across the terraced slope, while churches and sculptures add other points of interest. In the wider region, the valley landscape between Freiberg, Ingersheim and Pleidelsheim is among the last stretches of the Neckar in the Ludwigsburg district that still retain a very natural character.

The Schlossberg Circular Trail and Views of the Neckar Valley

The 5.8-kilometre Schlossberg circular trail follows the historic vineyard slope of Schlossberg below Kleiningersheim. Dry-stone walls terrace the slope and shape the route. Two viewpoints offer views of the steep vineyard slopes and across the Neckar Valley, and invite you to take a break. The landscape and opportunities to pause are equally part of the character of this walk.

The distance is a useful point of reference when planning your trip, but it does not indicate how long the walk will take. If you want to cater to different interests within your group, the route has a clear focus on walking and landscape. The two viewpoints add opportunities to stop and take in the scenery.

Churches and Art in Ingersheim

The Martinskirche in Großingersheim has undergone several alterations and extensions. In Kleiningersheim, the Georgskirche was built in 1601 under the direction of Stuttgart master builder Hans Braun, who was an associate of Heinrich Schickhardt. The two churches thus offer different historical points of interest: the Martinskirche is notable for its structural alterations, while the Georgskirche stands out for its construction date and its builder’s connection to Heinrich Schickhardt.

Another stop for art lovers is the grounds of the old cemetery behind the town hall. There, sculptor Jörg Failmezger from Pleidelsheim has installed several sculptures on loan to the municipality free of charge. Together with the churches, they make for a cultural focus that differs clearly from the Schlossberg circular trail, which is geared towards landscape and walking.

Vineyard Landscapes in the Wider Ludwigsburg Destination

In the wider Ludwigsburg destination, viticulture becomes a broader landscape and cultural theme: terraced, steep vineyards along the Neckar and Enz shape the district, where wine-growing has been a tradition for centuries. Two distinct regional attractions are the WeinErlebnisWeg Wunnenstein and the Geigersberg Wine Trail, each offering a different focus.

The approximately four-kilometre WeinErlebnisWeg Wunnenstein is a walking route with 60 illustrated panels about viticulture and winemaking. Viewpoints, as well as restaurants, seating areas, barbecue spots and Wengertschützen huts, are located along the route. The 1.9-kilometre Geigersberg Wine Trail in Sachsenheim is a circular route with information panels about nature and wine culture, as well as rest areas. By comparison, the Wunnenstein route focuses particularly on viticulture and winemaking, while Geigersberg combines nature topics with wine culture.

When looking for accommodation in Ingersheim, you can start by choosing your preferred focus: the Schlossberg circular trail with its steep vineyard slopes and viewpoints, or the churches and sculptures. If you include the wider Ludwigsburg destination in your travel plans, the regional wine trails offer another choice of theme.
