Discover Adelsheim: Half-timbered houses, history and outdoor swimming pool
Accommodation in Adelsheim
Adelsheim combines historic architecture, local Jewish history and outdoor recreation. On a walking tour of the town, you can discover distinctive buildings and churches; there is also an outdoor swimming pool, hiking trails and other leisure activities. This makes it easy to choose what to see based on your interests.
Half-timbered houses and churches on a town walk
A walking tour of Adelsheim takes in the Upper and Lower Castles, the half-timbered town hall, St. James’ Church and the town tower by the town garden. The Historic Town Hall was built in 1619 in the Franconian half-timbered style. The most valuable tombs at the late Gothic St. James’ Church are in the funerary chapel added on its south side. The Protestant town church has a different style: it is Baroque, has an onion dome and regained its Hohenlohe blue during renovation work.
Sennfeld: Jewish history and a castle
In Adelsheim’s Sennfeld district stands a castle built in 1713 in the rural Baroque style. In the village center is the synagogue, built in 1836; it is used as a local history museum, memorial and municipal archive. Two ritual baths, or mikvehs, and the prayer hall are fully preserved in the former synagogue in Sennfeld. It is also home to a documentation center on Jewish life in Adelsheim and Sennfeld. The Sennfeld Jewish cemetery is also a short walk away.
The Adelsheim Local History Museum, housed in the former tithe barn, documents the lives and everyday experiences of ordinary rural residents in Adelsheim and the surrounding area, with a focus on agriculture. Visits are possible by prior arrangement only. The museum adds a perspective on everyday history and rural work to the town halls, churches and synagogues.
Outdoor activities
Adelsheim’s outdoor swimming pool is located by the Brünnbachtal nature reserve. It has a water slide and is heated using solar energy; there is also a miniature golf course. The pool season is listed as May to September. Check the latest operating details before your visit if you are planning to swim.
On Adelsheim’s well-maintained hiking trails, walkers may come across Roman-era remains such as watchtowers or the Limes. The town park has a historic waterfall. A recreational area with a barbecue hut and play area adds to the options; other leisure facilities include bowling alleys and tennis courts. Check in advance whether the bowling alleys and tennis courts are currently available.
Another highlight in the Neckar-Odenwald district
In the wider Neckar-Odenwald district, a circular accessible trail of around 3.8 kilometers in Elztal runs through the Trienzbach Valley and past a Kneipp facility. The trail is suitable for wheelchair users, people with walkers and families with strollers. It offers a distinct focus on nature and exercise within the Neckar-Odenwald district. In the district, the Katzenbuckel in Waldbrunn offers a different kind of landscape: at 626 meters, it is the highest mountain in the Odenwald; a 20-meter-high observation tower offers panoramic views across the Odenwald.
