Discover Seckach: Art, Culture and Trails
Accommodation in Seckach
Seckach brings art, local history and hiking trails together in one travel plan. Around 90 sculptures stand in the sculpture park in Seckach’s municipal forest, created by the artist couple based there together with other artists. Forest and art are expressly part of the same visitor experience here. If you enjoy combining a cultural theme with nature, this offers a concrete way to start exploring the town.
Art in the Municipal Forest and Along the Route
The Sculpture Cycle Route also passes through Seckach. At 77 kilometres long, this art and nature route through the Odenwald and Bauland offers a different focus from the sculpture park: here, the emphasis is on a regional route, while the park brings forest and art together in one place. When planning, consider whether you would like to focus on the park or a longer route. Check the latest route conditions before setting out.
Local History and Options for Different Interests
The museum in the moated castle at Großeicholzheim complements the art in the municipal forest with its own connection to local history. It opened in September 2008 and was awarded the designation “Exemplary Local History Museum” in spring 2011. Groups such as school classes and clubs can arrange guided tours outside regular visiting hours. Coordinate such a visit with the museum in advance.
The Klinge Children’s and Youth Village offers a different focus: it has one of the region’s largest playground areas and designated hiking trails. If you are planning a trip with children, you can make the playground area one of your priorities; the hiking trails offer a different way to spend time together. This allows you to include culture, playgrounds and outdoor activities as separate interests in your travel plans, without combining them into a single programme.
Plan Hikes and Your Journey
Two hiking options can be compared by their length and starting points. An approximately 8-kilometre one-way route begins at Seckach station, first leads to Bödigheim, then continues to Bödigheimer Castle and the Eberstadt stalactite cave. The 6.9-kilometre “Stalactite Caves Trail,” by contrast, starts at the Klinge youth village near Seckach and also leads to the Eberstadt stalactite cave. Check the route information before setting out.
Seckach station is a regional railway hub: the Baden Odenwald Railway between Heidelberg and Würzburg connects here with the Madonnenland Railway between Seckach and Miltenberg. If you are arriving or continuing your journey by train, check the latest connections. When looking for accommodation, first decide whether your plans will centre on the station as a starting point, the playground area and trails in Klinge, or the cultural sites. Then check that the accommodation’s exact location suits your priorities.
Seckach Indoor Swimming Pool
Seckach Indoor Swimming Pool is currently closed. The facility includes a swimming pool with massage jets and a sauna; check whether it has reopened before visiting.
