Fahrenbach: Nature, Trails and History in the Sandstone Odenwald
Accommodation in Fahrenbach
Fahrenbach lies entirely within the Sandstone Odenwald and is a member of the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park and the BergstraĂźe-Odenwald UNESCO Global Geopark. Its natural surroundings, views and architectural history give the town several facets for you to explore according to your interests.
Lake Robern and scenic views
The Lake Robern nature reserve covers 23 hectares. The wetland complex there is protected as a breeding and resting area for rare and endangered waterbirds as well as migratory birds passing through. Lake Robern is a popular destination for nature lovers; a walk by the lake is one way to enjoy your free time in Fahrenbach.
At the lake, the focus is on protecting a habitat. For a different view of the town, visit the pavilion on KĂĽrzenberg: from there, the view stretches across Fahrenbach and, on a clear day, as far as Stuttgart. Nature watching and panoramic views offer two distinct ways to spend time outdoors.
Churches and history
The town’s architectural history also reflects different eras. Fahrenbach Protestant Church is a Neoclassical church dating from 1826. St. James Catholic Church traces its origins to the Middle Ages and has a late Romanesque core. Its nave was rebuilt in 1790, and the church was extensively expanded in 1898/99.
Another architectural landmark is St. Mary Catholic Church. Built in 1959/60, it is distinguished by its austere functionalist design. Together with St. James, it offers a comparison of medieval origins, later alterations and 20th-century architecture. The Odenwald Limes also ran through what is now the municipality of Fahrenbach, adding a connection to Roman history.
Exploring trails and nature
Mountain biking is possible on the forest trails in Fahrenbach. The Wanderbahn, a former railway line from Mosbach to Mudau, is also suitable for cycling and hiking tours. A walk by Lake Robern is another way to spend time outdoors.
For a break after a tour, there is a Kneipp facility where you can cool off. A barbecue area is located at the edge of the forest near the facility. Children can also enjoy the playgrounds in Fahrenbach.
When looking for accommodation in Fahrenbach, you can use your plans for the day as a starting point: would you like to focus on walks and nature watching, explore churches and their architectural history, or go cycling and hiking?
