Ebermannsdorf: Ore Trail, Burial Mounds and Local History
Accommodation in Ebermannsdorf
Ebermannsdorf combines walking trails with visible traces of local history. The Way of Generations invites you to discover the town on foot; at the Meilerplatz, reconstructed burial mounds illustrate burial practices of the past. The Ore Trail also passes through Ebermannsdorf and can be explored in two described directions. Ebermannsdorf Castle is another feature of the townscape—but it can only be seen as you drive through, as it is inhabited and not open to visitors.
Walking Trail and Traces of the Past
The municipality established the family-friendly Way of Generations walking trail in 2010.
A field of reconstructed burial mounds is located right next to the Meilerplatz. It illustrates how ancestors buried their dead in the past. This place thus connects a specific location with a glimpse into historical burial practices: rather than treating history only as an abstract subject, the burial mounds bring it to life. Together with the walking trail, they show how outdoor activity and cultural discovery come together locally.
Ebermannsdorf Castle offers another view of the town. It can be seen as you drive through the town; it is still inhabited and is not open to visitors. So do not plan a visit to the castle; instead, take it in as a sight while driving through Ebermannsdorf.
The Ore Trail through Ebermannsdorf
The Ore Trail passes through Ebermannsdorf and has been awarded the German Hiking Association’s “Quality Trail” designation. Two options are described for finding your way: from the Berggasthof, you can follow it towards Amberg; in the Wiegental, you can start towards Kastl. These starting points and directions provide a practical basis for planning your hike.
Within the wider Amberg-Sulzbach destination, the Ore Trail takes on a broader thematic context: it connects sites with a mining tradition spanning more than 1,000 years and passes through cultural and natural landscapes. In Ebermannsdorf, the local route thus meets a regional themed trail whose subject extends beyond the municipality.
Amberg-Sulzbach: More Regional Highlights
The wider Amberg-Sulzbach destination is in Bavaria, between Regensburg and Nuremberg. For hiking, the Amberg-Sulzbach region offers imposing limestone cliffs, gentle Jura hills, extensive forests and charming river valleys. One specific additional hiking destination is the Felsenweg: this 2.7-kilometre hike takes about 45 minutes and leads from Sackdilling through the rocky labyrinth to the Bauernlöcher and an impressive rocky landscape.
In the wider Amberg-Sulzbach destination, you can try traditional archery at the Bow Vision 3D course in Wolfertsfeld: the circular route is about 3 kilometres long and passes through the farmers’ forest, typical of the Upper Palatinate Jura. Another regional point of interest in the wider Amberg-Sulzbach destination is the East Bavarian Mining and Industry Museum at Kultur-Schloss Theuern, where the mining and industry of eastern Bavaria are researched and documented.
The Kirwan also form part of cultural life in the Amberg-Sulzbach region. Since 2023, they have been part of Bavaria’s intangible cultural heritage. They are celebrated each year in the respective towns and are open to visitors and locals alike. Regional cuisine has its own traditions, too: many restaurants regularly serve Schlachtschüssel. Wurschtsuppn, Kesselfleisch and blood sausages, liver sausages and bratwurst made to individual recipes are served; dates vary from restaurant to restaurant.
Choose where to stay based on the places you actually want to visit.
