Edelsfeld can be explored through specific trails and traces of history: a wildlife-tracking trail featuring depictions of native forest animals is part of a Kneipp circular trail, alongside a bee information trail, a cycling route and old sunken lanes. The options differ in subject and length. When planning your trip, a good first question is therefore whether you mainly want to explore Edelsfeld’s own trails and cultural heritage or also include destinations elsewhere in the wider Amberg-Sulzbach travel region.

Animal Depictions on the Hahnenkamm

The 600 m wildlife-tracking trail on the Hahnenkamm is incorporated into Edelsfeld’s 3 km Kneipp circular hiking trail. Life-size, lifelike depictions of native forest animals line the trail. This section thus combines a nature theme with the longer circuit. The Kneipp trail starts at the five Sebastian Kneipp columns on the sports grounds and follows a circular route of about 3 km. The distances provide a practical guide for planning your day: the wildlife-tracking trail is 600 m long, while the full Kneipp circuit covers about 3 km.

Sunken Lanes, Farmstead History and an Information Trail

Traces of historic routes can also be found at specific locations. Old sunken lanes lie along the forest path toward Sinnleithen and below the burial mounds on Steinlinger Weg. The sunken lanes on Steinlinger Weg run toward WeiĂźenberg. At Steinlinger Hohlweg, six to eight route traces can be identified in the forest on the descent from the Hahnenkamm to Edelsfeld. There are ten to twelve between the new sports ground and the edge of the village. The two sections therefore differ both in location and in the number of route traces.

Another historic landmark is the Goglhof open-air museum: the three-sided farmstead is in the district of Eberhardsbühl and was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Upper Palatinate Bee Information Trail runs for 3 km from Schönlind to Eberhardsbühl. Edelsfeld thus brings together themed trails and a historic farmstead alongside traces of older routes. If you want to plan your outings around your interests, the different themes make it easy to choose: animal depictions on the Hahnenkamm, the history of routes along the sunken lanes, or the bee information trail between its two named locations.

Cycling Route and Regional Options

Edelsfeld is on Route 3 of the Simultankirchen cycle route. The 24 km discovery tour starts at the former Simultankirche St. Stephanus on Sulzbacher StraĂźe. In the wider Amberg-Sulzbach travel region, the Simultankirchen cycle route connects a total of 49 churches in the central and northern Upper Palatinate; ten day trips of varying lengths are available.

The landscape and activity options also vary across the wider Amberg-Sulzbach travel region. For hiking, the Amberg-Sulzbach region offers impressive limestone cliffs, gentle Jura hills, extensive forests and river valleys. The Felsenweg is a 2.7 km hike that takes about 45 minutes from Sackdilling through the rock labyrinth to the Bauernlöcher caves. Another option is the Bow-Vision 3D course near Wolfertsfeld in Birgland: on an approximately 3 km circular route through the farm woodland typical of the Upper Palatinate Jura, you can try traditional archery.

Culture and regional cuisine are also part of the wider Amberg-Sulzbach travel region. Since 2023, Kirwa festivals have been part of Bavaria’s intangible cultural heritage. They are celebrated each year in the respective village and are open to visitors as well as local residents. Many inns regularly invite guests to a traditional Schlachtschüssel meal. It includes Wurschtsuppn, boiled pork from the cooking pot, and blood, liver and bratwurst sausages made to the inn’s own recipes; dates vary from one inn to another.

Plan the Right Stay

If the cycling route or a particular interest shapes your plans, take it into account when choosing where to stay. When planning your outings, the route distances and walking time provide a practical guide.
