Discover Neubäu: Nature and leisure
Accommodation in Neubäu
Neubäuer See combines water, activities and nature with a range of options for planning your trip. Swimming, sunbathing, boating and relaxing are all on offer, along with a large beach. Beach volleyball courts, a skate park, outdoor chess and a playground add to the leisure activities. If you prefer to spend time on the water, you can fish, go for a walk or sail; regattas are also held regularly. Depending on the season, some leisure activities may not be available.
A lake with a special natural environment
The 58-hectare Neubäuer See is a rare, nutrient-poor pond ecosystem. Its habitats range from open water and silting zones to lichen and bog pine forests. Alongside leisure activities, the area’s diverse natural habitats and transitional zones are also a key attraction. Guided excursions explore the lake’s history as well as its flora and fauna. Dates may vary, so it is best to check before your visit.
The visitor area at Neubäuer See can be reached on foot, by bicycle, car or train. If you are travelling by train or car, check the connections that are right for your travel date.
Culture and leisure in the wider destination of Roding
Several buildings and works of art in the wider destination of Roding tell stories of different eras. The Roding Dance of Death fresco on the cemetery wall was probably created around the middle of the 17th century based on an earlier model. St Joseph’s Chapel in Roding was originally the baptistery of Roding’s original church, dating from the 7th or 8th century. Its later-added upper floor contains 13th- and 14th-century frescoes in the Romanesque and Gothic fresco-secco techniques. St Anne’s Chapel is built onto the old cemetery wall and replaced an earlier chapel around 1650.
The Roding Fire Brigade Museum displays more than 250 historical firefighting tools, uniforms and documents across two floors. The Fronfeste cultural centre in Roding hosts changing exhibitions, theatre, films and cabaret. There are also activities for those seeking exercise and outdoor experiences: the leisure area at Esper in Roding includes a skate park with a mini ramp, ledges and a box. The Jungle Arena at Esper consists of a climbable dome structure and a pyramid-shaped octanet. Its structure is more than six metres high and offers views of the surrounding trees and the Regen floodplains. The grounds also include a water-experience platform directly on the Regen, designed to bring visitors closer to nature.
To help you find your way around Roding, the Tourist Information Office provides leaflets about leisure activities, hiking and cycling maps, and an up-to-date town map; the availability of individual maps may change. In front of the Tourist Information Office, a digital information point lets you explore sights, events and other offerings interactively.
