Getting your bearings in Oberdorf
The municipal playground on RaiffeisenstraĂźe is part of the range of playgrounds provided by the municipality of Roding. The municipality regularly inspects and maintains its playgrounds; it is still a good idea to check the condition on site before your visit. This gives you a specific local reference point if you want to include a play area in your travel plans.
The Roding–Zell–Bernhardswald–Regensburg bus route serves Oberdorf. The corresponding timetable is valid from 1 June 2026. As timetables may change, it is best to check the service before your journey. This lets you adapt your travel plans to the current timetable without assuming a particular journey time.
The Regen, nature and outdoor activities in Roding
There are two different route distances for canoe tours: a 107-kilometre canoe tour on the Regen runs from Blaibacher See via Roding to Regensburg. A 23.5-kilometre stage runs from Roding to Nittenau. The comparison shows the different distances; the shorter figure refers to the stage between Roding and Nittenau, while the longer one covers the route to Regensburg.
Two nature trails in Roding focus on different topics. The fish trail uses information boards to explain the way of life and diversity of fish native to the Regen. The bee trail presents the diversity of honeybees and their products. When choosing a nature topic, you can therefore choose between insights into the fish of the Regen and information about honeybees.
The leisure area at Esper in Roding includes a skate park and the Jungle Arena. The skate park features a mini ramp, ledges and a box. The Jungle Arena consists of a climbable dome structure and a pyramid-shaped octagonal net. Its structure is more than six metres high and offers views of the surrounding trees and the Regen floodplains. The leisure area also includes a water experience platform directly on the Regen, designed for experiencing nature.
Culture and tradition in Roding
Several buildings and works of art in Roding tell stories of different eras. The Dance of Death fresco on the cemetery wall was probably created around the middle of the 17th century, based on an older model. St Joseph’s Chapel was originally the baptistery of Roding’s original church, which dates from the 7th or 8th century. Its upper storey, added at a later date, contains 13th- and 14th-century frescoes in the Romanesque and Gothic fresco-secco techniques. St Anne’s Chapel is built onto the old cemetery wall and replaced an earlier building around 1650.
More recent cultural venues and collections also have their own focus. The Roding Fire Brigade Museum displays more than 250 historic firefighting appliances, uniforms and documents across two floors. The Fronfeste Cultural Centre hosts changing exhibitions, theatre, films and cabaret; dates are published separately.
The Roding pilgrimage on foot is a recurring religious tradition. Every year on 15 August, after the festive service, it sets out from Heilbrünnl Church and takes four days to reach Altötting and the Black Madonna in the Chapel of Grace. Another visitor experience is the Water Rescue Service Roding’s traditional torchlit swim through the Regen. You can also contact the Water Rescue Service with enquiries about swimming lessons; there is also a way to get in touch about training and swimming badges.
