If you are planning a stay in Tiefenbach, you can choose from a range of activities involving swimming, hiking and a remarkable craft tradition. The natural forest swimming pool has separate areas for children and toddlers; the Frauenstein Trail passes several named places. At the former bobbin lace school museum, you can discover the local bobbin lace tradition through designs and works. There are also hiking destinations in Altenschneeberg and Hoffeld, as well as a circular trail around Silbersee. These different themes offer inspiration for shaping your stay around your interests.

Swimming and Hiking Trails

The Tiefenbach natural forest swimming pool has a shallow area for children and a separate paddling area for toddlers. For families, these are two distinct swimming areas to take into account when planning your day. Please also note that there is no lifeguard at the natural forest swimming pool, and swimming is at your own risk. Before swimming, check the local notices and the current status of the facilities, as they may change.

The Frauenstein Trail starts at the Russenbräu inn in Tiefenbach. Its route passes the forest swimming pool, the Russenmühle mill and Schönbrunnen Chapel, continues via Geißlohe and Signalberg to Frauenstein Castle ruins, then returns via Altenschneeberg and the Schneeberg slopes to Waldbadstraße in Tiefenbach. The chapel, Signalberg and the ruins provide several specific landmarks along the way. The sequence of stops gives you a clear idea of the route for planning your hike, without assuming a walking time or difficulty level.

Bobbin Lace Tradition and Regional Destinations

At the former bobbin lace school museum in Tiefenbach, designs, pattern drawings, lace patterns and bobbin lace works from Tiefenbach are on display in the hall of the former bobbin lace school, now used as the town hall. The different exhibits offer insights into various forms of lace-making, from drawings and templates to finished bobbin lace works. Bobbin lace-making in the Upper Palatinate Forest, as well as in Schönsee, Stadlern and Tiefenbach, was included in the Bavarian State List and the Federal List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016. The recognition expressly covers several places; Tiefenbach is part of a regional tradition. Please obtain up-to-date local information before visiting the museum.

In the district of Altenschneeberg, the T1 hiking trail leads via Signalberg to Frauenstein Castle ruins. The rock arch of the former castle is still clearly visible in the forest. In Hoffeld, which was incorporated into the municipality in question in 1972, there is an observation tower on SchloĂźhĂĽgel. From there, the view extends across the entire municipality and the whole Schwarzachbergland region. These two destinations complement the local and craft themes with distinctive points in the municipality.

A six-kilometre circular hiking trail runs along Silbersee, between Tiefenbach and Treffelstein. The route passes through reed beds, wet meadows and alder forests; information boards share facts about the region’s flora and fauna as well as the history of Silbersee. The distance gives you a concrete reference point if you would like to include the loop in your day’s plans. The lake’s nature and history are both at the heart of this route.

The Right Base for Your Plans

If the natural forest swimming pool and the start of the Frauenstein Trail are your main priorities, you can focus your search on accommodation in Tiefenbach. If you would also like to include the T1 hiking trail in Altenschneeberg, the observation tower in Hoffeld or Silbersee, take these places into account when planning. This way, you can choose a base that suits the experiences you actually want to prioritise.
