Adelsdorf: Castle Stories, Trails and Water
Accommodation in Adelsdorf
Adelsdorf invites you to experience culture and outdoor activities in a variety of ways: A castle tour takes you inside and reveals a fascinating story, while trails, green spaces and water features each add their own character. Families will also find activities to enjoy, including theatre performances for children and adults. If you are looking for a place to stay, consider first whether you want to focus on Adelsdorf’s local attractions or also explore other destinations in the wider region during your visit.
Culture between castle and stage
On a tour of Adelsdorf Castle, you can visit the interior and learn more about the “White Lady”. Tour dates may change, so check the latest tour schedule before your visit.
In the village of Heppstädt, Kuckucksheim Theatre stages performances for children and adults. Adelsdorf therefore offers a choice of cultural experiences: a tour offering insights into the castle and the story of the “White Lady”, and theatre on stage.
Trails, water and outdoor activities
The St. Anna Trail is about 660 metres long and easy to walk. It links various expressions of religious devotion that are part of the landscape in and around Weppersdorf. It is a short route with a clear cultural connection.
The Eisweiher pond, located on Flurstraße, is an accessible recreation area for all generations, with facilities for play, sport and exercise. Adelsdorf’s green spaces and waterside areas offer particularly good conditions for cycling trips into nature. The Aischgründer Carp Cycling Route is another regional route: it passes through Adelsdorf and turns west towards Höchstadt. Check current route conditions before setting out.
Fishing and an informative trail
The Lower Aischgrund Fisheries Museum is located in Adelsdorf-Neuhaus, in a historic fishing house. The Neuhaus Fisherman’s Cottage displays a fishing exhibition across 200 square metres and two floors. The museum is also the starting point for a two-kilometre educational trail. Information panels along the route cover Franconia’s fish fauna, as well as fishing and pond farming.
These offer different options when choosing a route: the easy-to-walk St. Anna Trail, about 660 metres long, connects religious symbols with the landscape around Weppersdorf. The two-kilometre educational trail in Neuhaus, by contrast, features information panels about fish and pond farming.
In the wider Erlangen-Höchstadt region
The wider region offers further nature and cultural experiences across Erlangen-Höchstadt. An extensive network of cycling and hiking trails lets you explore the landscape from the Aischgrund to the Erlanger Oberland. In Kalchreuth, a three-kilometre circular trail winds through cherry orchards. Information panels cover cherries, the landscape and Kalchreuth, while interactive stations focus on nature.
Protected landscapes also shape the wider region: the “Vogelfreistätte Weihergebiet bei Mohrhof” nature reserve is home to rare bird species, wetlands and species-rich orchid meadows. It is an Important Bird Area and one of the early Natura 2000 Special Areas of Conservation and Special Protection Areas.
For food lovers, Höchstadt a.d.Aisch offers another regional speciality: Aischgründer mirror carp from the surrounding Himmelsteiche ponds is one of the town’s specialities and has protected geographical indication status. Its season runs from September to April, the months with an “R” in their German names. This gives you a practical seasonal guide if you would like to include regional dishes in your travel plans.
