Oberreute can be explored through a variety of very different experiences: a scenic circular trail through the Oberreute section of the Hausbachklamm gorge, views from the Martinshöhe and insights into local history and personal reflection. The range extends from outdoor activity to quieter and cultural-history themes.

Gorge, Views and Hiking Trails

A varied circular trail for the whole family runs through the Oberreute section of the Hausbachklamm gorge. Its features include bridges, a climbing rope, a ropeway and places to rest. The climbing rope and ropeway add an active element, while the rest areas offer a chance to pause. The route is therefore shaped not only by its course, but also by its different features.

At 953 m, Martinshöhe is Oberreute’s local mountain and features a wayside cross. From there, the view takes in Oberreute, the neighbouring municipalities and the “Unterland”; it stretches from the Nagelfluhkette range in the east to the 2,502 m Säntis in the southwest. Here, views of the surrounding area meet far-reaching vistas—a different focus from the trail features of the Hausbachklamm gorge.

Oberreute’s signposted hiking network is around 40 km long. This approximate total length gives an overview of the network; for your own planning, it is also worth looking at individual routes. The Oberreute Trilogie circular walk provides specific details on length, duration and difficulty.

Routes with Different Characteristics

The Oberreute Trilogie circular walk is 4.82 km long, takes 1 hour and 18 minutes, and is rated easy. It starts at the Oberreute Start and Welcome Point in the spa gardens. With the theme “At Boundaries, Yet Boundless,” the walk introduces the local history. It thus combines a clearly measured hike with a local-history theme.

Stage 16 of the Wasserläufer route in the Allgäu Hiking Trilogy leads from Oberreute via Martinshöhe and Wildrosenmoos, through the Hausbachklamm gorge, to Weiler-Simmerberg. Unlike the Trilogie circular walk, which is described as a loop with a stated duration, this stage can be identified by its sequence of named places. The two options therefore represent different approaches to planning a hike: a measured local loop and a stage passing through a longer sequence of places.

Local History and Quiet Spaces

The “Heimatstube” museum in Oberreute presents local history across six rooms. Individual guided tours of the museum can be arranged. In addition to the historical theme of the Trilogie circular walk, this offers a distinct way to explore local history—as a museum visit with a tour that can be arranged individually.

The SINNRAUM in Oberreute’s Beule district is an ecumenical, spiritual and meditative space for mindfulness. It serves as a place for personal reflection and as a quiet respite from everyday life. The SINNRAUM also houses the “Book of Life,” a book made from dried peat that is 4,000 years old, created by artist Max Schmelcher. The material and age give this book an unusual profile among the local cultural features.

The Heimatstube, Trilogie circular walk and SINNRAUM each offer different cultural experiences. You can therefore choose Oberreute as a destination according to the experiences you want to shape your stay.
