Enterbach can be explored through two very different themes: the history of Tegernsee marble and an easy circular hike that starts here. Marble connects the town with a long history of use; the Genussrunde offers a practical reference point for planning your day. When choosing your destination, you can weigh up whether you are more interested in cultural history, a walk, or both.

Tegernsee marble: a story with wider connections

Tegernsee marble was discovered in Enterbach in 1683 and quarried until around the middle of the 20th century. The stone was used, among other places, at the Walhalla near Regensburg and in the Munich Residenz. If you are interested in culture and architectural history, this offers a different way to explore the destination than a hike.

Explore the Enterbach Genussrunde on foot

The Enterbach Genussrunde is a 6.8-kilometre circular trail that starts in Enterbach. It is considered family-friendly and easy; the route takes around two hours. Its distance, approximate duration and difficulty rating help you decide whether the tour fits into your planned day. As a circular trail, it offers a clearly defined hiking excursion, while the marble history provides a cultural focus.

To get to the Genussrunde, take the Bayerische Oberlandbahn to Tegernsee and then continue by bus to the appropriate stop. Check the current timetables before setting out. This lets you plan your journey without relying on a particular service or departure time.

Kreuth as a wider destination

Kreuth’s landscape may also play a part in planning your trip. The municipality of Kreuth covers 123 km², stretching from Lake Tegernsee to the Tyrolean state border, where the Blauberg range forms the boundary. Its highest peak is the Halserspitz, at 1,862 metres. The Weißach floodplains were designated a landscape conservation area in 1953. As a wider destination, Kreuth’s landscape adds a regional perspective to Enterbach’s marble history and Genussrunde.

The trail along the Weißach runs on both sides of the river and features more than 20 interactive stations. These include a water play area and a climbing course. Visitors can also guess bird calls and animal tracks, and discover scents and aromas. Play, movement and sensory activities sit side by side, offering different ways to try things out together. Unlike the Genussrunde, whose distance and approximate duration are given, the description of the Erlebnisweg focuses on its stations and activities.

For winter plans, the Klamm-Bayerwald-Glashütte cross-country ski trail is another point of interest in Kreuth. It winds through deeply snow-covered forests and small valleys towards Glashütte. Whether the trail is open depends on snow conditions. The Kreuther Leonhardifahrt also takes place every year on 6 November. It is a cultural event with a fixed date, while the cross-country ski trail offers a seasonal opportunity to be active.

History and practical information in Kreuth

Wildbad Kreuth also has a long history: its spring had been known since at least the 15th century. The bathing facilities closed in 1973. This timeline is important if you are interested in the history of the area. For information about hiking and cycling, the Kreuth Tourist Information Office has a hiking information corner.

When looking for accommodation, you can use your planned activities as a guide. If the Genussrunde is a central part of your stay, Enterbach, as its starting point, is a practical reference for planning. If you are especially interested in the Erlebnisweg, the cross-country ski trail or the Leonhardifahrt, Kreuth as a wider destination takes centre stage.
