Discover Kreuth: Weißach, mountains and local traditions
Accommodation in Kreuth
Kreuth stretches from Lake Tegernsee to the Tyrolean border; on this side, the municipality is bounded by the Blauberg range. It also offers an interactive adventure trail along the Weißach, an annual Leonhardi procession and a cross-country ski trail whose availability depends on snow conditions. When choosing accommodation, you can consider whether your main focus is the landscape, culture or a winter stay with cross-country skiing.
Landscape between Lake Tegernsee and the Blauberg range
The municipality covers 123 km². At the Tyrolean border, the Blauberg range forms its boundary; its highest peak is the 1,862-metre Halserspitz. The Weißach floodplain was designated a landscape conservation area in 1953. Kreuth’s landscape therefore encompasses both its broad geographical setting and a specifically designated protected area.
Get involved and explore along the Weißach
The adventure trail along the Weißach runs on both sides of the river and features more than 20 interactive stations. Along the trail, there is a water playground and a climbing course. Visitors can also guess bird calls and animal tracks, and discover scents and aromas. Exercise, observation, puzzles and sensory experiences come together here in a varied trail for anyone who enjoys actively experiencing nature.
Tradition and history
The Kreuth Leonhardi procession takes place every year on 6 November. It gives the calendar a fixed date for a visit focused on culture. Wildbad Kreuth is also part of the town’s history: the spring there had been known since at least the 15th century, and bathing operations ceased in 1973.
Winter activities and practical information
The Klamm-Bayerwald-Glashütte cross-country ski trail is in Kreuth and leads towards Glashütte through snow-covered forests and small valleys. As a seasonal trail, its availability depends on snow conditions; check this when planning your winter trip. Kreuth is also the venue for international luge competitions on the Kreuth-Klamm luge track.
If you would like to include hiking or cycling in your travel plans, the Tourist Information Kreuth hiking corner provides information on both. This can help you find your bearings before planning your outings.
