Kirchzell combines a forested landscape with marked trails and historic buildings. Three quarters of the municipality’s area is forested, making Kirchzell one of Bavaria’s most heavily wooded municipalities. Several clearly distinct highlights are available for your trip: hiking trails through remote valleys, a challenging mountain bike loop, nature-themed attractions and architectural history.

Hiking Through the Valleys

A network of well-marked circular hiking trails leads through the remote valleys of Breitenbach, Dörnbach and Waldbach. The Drei-Täler-Weg runs from Watterbach through Dörnbach, past the hamlet of Breitenbach with its little church, to Ottorfszell. Its sequence of places makes this trail a distinct option within the hiking offering. Check current local route information before setting out.

Nature and Outdoor Activities

For mountain bikers, the well-marked AM1 loop follows challenging trails, including through the Kirchzell Forest. This offers a different focus from the circular hiking trails. The themed areas “Experience the Forest” near Wildenberg Castle and “Creeping and Crawling” in the Zeibertsklinge are also located within Kirchzell’s municipal area. Their names alone point to different nature themes.

The paved bee nature trail is easy to walk with a stroller. At the end, visitors can watch bees build and care for their colony in a display hive. How clearly the bees can be seen naturally varies.

Historic Buildings in Kirchzell

Kirchzell’s architectural history can be seen in two specific buildings. The historic town hall, dating from around 1500, stands in the market square. In the district of Preunschen is the Watterbacher Haus, an Odenwald farmhouse dating from 1475. It is over 500 years old and was built using the rare ridge-post construction method.

A technical topic is another possible discovery: at the Betzwieser Typewriter Museum, you can try out some of the typewriters. Please confirm the details before your visit.

Which experiences should define your stay?

The nature attractions differ in character: the paved bee nature trail is easy to walk with a stroller, while the AM1 mountain bike loop follows challenging trails. This contrast may help guide your accommodation search: consider whether you would prefer the trail or a challenging bike ride to define your stay.
