Ampfing: Water, Activities and Local History
Accommodation in Ampfing
Ampfing offers a wide variety of things to discover: areas for swimming and play at the Green Lagoon, outdoor sports and activities, and specific insights into local history. When planning your visit, you can first consider whether you are mainly looking for time by the water, sports activities or cultural and historical impressions. The places and activities each have their own distinct character.
Water, Play and the Seasons at the Green Lagoon
The Green Lagoon covers almost 40,000 m². It includes a 5,000 m² swimming pond and a 1,500 m² regeneration pond. The water area is divided into a bathing area and a shallow-water area designed to feel close to nature. The dimensions may change if the area is redesigned in the future.
The facility includes sports and sunbathing areas, a beach volleyball court, a Kneipp pool, and wet and dry playgrounds for children. The grounds of the Green Lagoon at HinmĂĽhler Weg 27 also feature a recreational facility with table tennis tables, a slackline, beach volleyball courts, a multi-battle obstacle course and an OCR ninja training obstacle. These facilities combine water and relaxation with additional opportunities for exercise and play. Facilities may change; check which ones are currently available before your visit.
Use of the area changes with the seasons: during prolonged periods of frost, the Green Lagoon is used for Bavarian curling and ice skating. These winter activities are specifically dependent on prolonged frost. A footbridge over the Isen provides a short connection between the Green Lagoon and the town for pedestrians and cyclists. Before planning your route, check locally for any temporary closures.
Sports and Activities in Ampfing
Ampfing’s sports and leisure centre offers opportunities for football, tennis, roller hockey, swimming, beach volleyball, horse riding and gliding. The selection therefore ranges from various ball sports to gliding. You can treat these activities as different ideas for planning your day, without assuming that they all offer the same kind of experience.
Ampfing’s activity park at the sports and leisure centre includes a fitness trail with seven stations, a mini trampoline, a rotating disc and a bouldering wall. Ampfing also has a modern outdoor go-kart track with floodlighting. Check in advance whether the go-kart track and activity park are currently open; contact the relevant operator to confirm the availability of sports activities.
Church and the History of Technology
The Wimpasing branch church is also known as the Schweppermann Chapel. Its ceiling fresco depicts a scene from the Battle of 1322. A ceiling fresco is a painting executed on a ceiling; here, this historical subject offers a specific glimpse into Ampfing’s local history.
The Ampfing industrial heritage site comprises four exhibits relating to energy production: a pump jack on the subject of oil extraction, a photovoltaic system, a locomotive and a windmill used to produce drinking water. The different technical applications can be explored through the individual exhibits, from oil extraction to drinking water production.
MĂĽhldorf Am Inn: A Distinctive Cultural Highlight
In Mühldorf Am Inn, the 500-metre-long town square, with its colourful façades in the Inn-Salzach architectural style, defines the townscape. The Salzburg High Fountain on the town square was a gift from Salzburg Prince-Archbishop Johannes Ernst von Thun in 1692.
The two granaries, Haberkasten and Kornkasten, are also part of Mühldorf’s history: built in the 15th century to store grain, they stand on either side of a courtyard. The Haberkasten was later converted into a cultural centre. These sights belong to Mühldorf Am Inn and form a cultural highlight in their own right.
