Dachsbach lies in a rural setting, surrounded by nature in the heart of the lower Aischgrund. The 25-metre-high moated castle on the western edge of town is a local landmark. Together with the church, the Amtshaus and the former schoolhouse, it illustrates a history of architecture whose details range from the medieval tower core to the 19th century. Festivals and walking routes in the surrounding area add to the cultural appeal of the market town of Dachsbach.

Moated Castle and Art

At Am Kirchplatz 6 stands the former residential tower of a moated castle: a three-storey sandstone building whose core dates from the first half of the 13th century. The partially restored former residential tower of Dachsbach Moated Castle is occasionally used for art events; it is not open to visitors outside these occasions. The moated castle is also an art venue for the Kunst in Dachsbach event. Individual programmes may vary. If you would like to combine a visit with an art event, check the specific programme.

Church, Amtshaus and Historic Architectural Styles

The list of historic monuments maintained by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation, as of 8 December 2025, describes several buildings in Dachsbach. The Evangelical Lutheran parish church of St Mary is a choir-tower church: its lower tower storeys date from the 14th century, while the nave was built in 1700–1701. The church stands on the site of the former castle chapel. The pulpit, altar and organ reflect the Baroque period.

The former schoolhouse, which later served as the town hall, is also part of this architectural history. This two-storey sandstone ashlar building with a gabled roof dates from 1851. The former Amtshaus at Am Kirchplatz 3 offers a different impression: it is a two-storey hipped-roof building with a projecting half-timbered upper floor supported by carved columns. A monument listing dated 10 September 2026 dates its core to the first half of the 17th century. The different architectural styles and periods give you concrete clues to Dachsbach’s local history as you explore its buildings.

Art and Markets Throughout the Year

Dachsbach hosts an annual three-day art exhibition that is well known throughout the wider area. The Johannimarkt is also held every year, in June. These two events offer different reasons to visit the town at a particular time. As exact dates may vary, it is worth checking the event details before planning your trip around them.

The municipality also includes Rauschenberg, a separate district and not the town centre of Dachsbach. Its gardening association holds a spring festival on Ascension Day, which attracts many visitors. The Rauschenberg Kerwa is celebrated every year on the last weekend in August. When planning, check which district is hosting the event; specific programmes may vary.

Rural Surroundings and Regional Activities

Cycling and hiking routes are located close to Dachsbach. You can also cycle in the Aischtal near Dachsbach and hike in the Steigerwald near Dachsbach. The activities therefore vary by landscape: the Aischtal is a good choice for cycling, while the Steigerwald is suited to hiking.

Rauschenberg is the highest-lying district of the municipality of Dachsbach and already lies in an outlying area of the Steigerwald. Its historical landscape has a different story from that of the town centre: because arable and pasture land was limited, fruit growing and trading developed there in the past. Strawberry fields and traditional cherry orchards were particularly important. This history offers another perspective on the municipality’s districts, without equating former agricultural traditions with present-day land use.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Travel Interests
