Uehlfeld brings local history to life through distinctive buildings while also offering a range of nature and cycling themes to help you plan your trip. The Lower Gatehouse was built in 1787 as a half-timbered structure with a curved mansard roof and once marked the eastern end of the market square. The B 470 federal highway passes through one side of the gatehouse. Here, you can see the historic boundary of the market and the course of the road together.

The history of the gatehouse and St. James’ Church

The Protestant parish church of St. James also tells its story through its individual architectural features. Its oldest part is the solid tower; the lower section dates from around 1400. In the 17th century, the tower was given a new, slate-covered Baroque onion dome. A trumpet-playing angel serves as a weather vane. Comparing the old lower part of the tower with the later dome makes the different construction periods of a single building easy to see.

Nature watching and water in the municipality

The Weisach Nature and Discovery Trail, with five stations, runs near Uehlfeld along the River Weisach and is directly connected to the Aisch. Its topics range from geology and soil conditions to native animals and their habitats. The allotment gardens along the Weisach are also covered. The trail thus combines knowledge about nature with views of the gardens beside the river.

In the municipality of Uehlfeld, the area between Rohensaas and Gottesgab is particularly suitable for birdwatching. Another destination is the ponds near Egelsbach in Tragelhöchstädt. If you’re planning to go swimming, it is permitted in the Weisachsee in Schornweisach. Check local conditions before your visit.

Cycle routes with different points of reference

Uehlfeld lies on the Aisch Valley Cycle Route, which connects Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Bamberg. As the route may change, it’s a good idea to check the current route before setting off. The Carp Circular Route offers a different way to explore the area: it passes various points in the administrative community and has both a western and an eastern route. These routes call for different details when planning your ride: the Aisch Valley Cycle Route connects the two cities, while the Carp Circular Route offers a choice of a western or eastern route.

This architecture adds a distinct regional focus to Uehlfeld’s local history.

Regional food culture is also part of the wider travel destination. The Aischgrund Carp Gourmet Weeks take place every year from 1 September to 1 November at selected restaurants in the district; check in advance which establishments are participating.
