Ofterschwang combines experiences on the Ofterschwanger Horn with trails through the village and a late Baroque parish church. In winter, the options include ski slopes, cross-country trails and a natural toboggan run that depends on snow conditions; other excursions lead to wet meadows, geology, water, wind or art in the forest. When planning your stay, it is worth first considering which of these different highlights you would like to focus on.

Winter on the slopes, trails and downhill runs

The Gunzesried-Ofterschwang World Cup ski area offers 18 varied kilometres of slopes, ranging from easy family runs to the World Cup course. The ski area also provides direct access to a diverse network of cross-country trails. You can choose between two different types of winter sport: downhill skiing on the slopes or cross-country skiing on the trails. Trail conditions depend on the season and should be taken into account for your planned dates.

The natural toboggan run starts at the mountain station of the Weltcup-Express and the Ossi-Reichert-Bahn and runs for around one kilometre to the middle station of the Ossi-Reichert-Bahn. As this activity depends on snow, availability varies with conditions. The modern four-person Weltcup-Express chairlift reaches the mountain station in six minutes; it operates seasonally.

Another descent takes you from the mountain station of the Weltcup-Express down to the valley on downhill scooters, covering around 3.63 kilometres. You can choose a relaxed or sporty option. Scooter availability and operating hours may change; check these details if you would like to include the descent as a fixed part of your day's plans.

Discover nature and get out and about

The Stuimändle adventure trail on the Ofterschwanger Horn is a circular route around 3.9 kilometres long, with a variety of activity stations. It starts at the Weltcup-Hütte near the mountain station, where there is an adventure playground. Several stations offer insights into wet meadows, geology, water and wind; there is also art to discover in the forest. Nature, art and the playground come together along this circular route. The trail operates seasonally.

The Forest and Meadow Cycle Tour has its own focus: it starts at the valley station of the mountain lift in Ofterschwang and follows the foot of the Ofterschwanger Horn towards Sigiswang. Unlike the Stuimändle circular trail, this is a cycle tour with a clearly defined direction. This distinction can help you choose between the tours based on how you would like to get out and about.

Village trails, local produce and history

The “Good Things from the Village” circular trail passes through Ofterschwang and includes stops at both dairies and a wholegrain bakery. The Hüttenberg Alpine Dairy in Ofterschwang produces Allgäu mountain cheese, other cheese specialities, yoghurt and butter. So, alongside the trails on the Horn, your trip can also include a circular route through the village and specific products made locally.

Ofterschwang’s present-day late Baroque parish church of St Alexander adds a historical highlight. It was consecrated on 23 July 1760. Its precise date makes the church a cultural attraction in its own right, alongside the village’s nature and sports activities.

Getting there and planning your accommodation

Ofterschwang can be reached from Sonthofen by local public transport. You can also travel from Blaichach to Gunzesried by public transport. Routes and timetables may change; check the connections for your travel dates if you plan to include public transport in your accommodation and excursion planning.

When looking for suitable accommodation, you can consider the focus of your days—for example, winter sports, the adventure trail, a cycle tour or a route through the village. The activities mentioned have different starting points and conditions.
