Immenreuth can be explored through a range of experiences: a child-friendly circular trail through the town centre, hiking trails on Tannenberg and in the Flötztal valley, and the Church of Christ with its freestanding bell tower. The routes vary in length and character. You can decide whether a shorter walk, a longer day hike or culture in the broader destination of Tirschenreuth should shape your stay.

Circular Trails and Hikes Starting in Immenreuth

The Hundeschule Immenreuth relaxation hiking trail is 5.7 kilometres long, accessible and child-friendly; it is also suitable for pushchairs. The loop starts at the dog training field, heads towards Ziegelhütte through the town centre and past the solar installation, before returning to the dog training field.

The Tannenberg Trail also starts and ends at the Raiffeisen warehouse on Bahnhofstraße in Immenreuth. The route heads towards Plößberg. At the Zweifelau town sign, turn left; at a field cross in Zweifelau, the trail turns left again, descending to the Flötzbach stream and crossing a narrow footbridge to the Immenreuth–Ahornberg local road. Another hiking option is the Tannenberg Trail, which passes through Zweifelau on its way down to the Flötzbach stream.

The Gabellohe Trail also starts at the Raiffeisen warehouse and heads towards Plößberg. Ponds lie along the railway line. The trail also passes the holiday centre and campsite before reaching the Großer Hirschbergweiher pond. The Tannenberg Trail passes through Zweifelau to the Flötzbach stream, while the Gabellohe Trail leads to ponds along the railway line and to the Großer Hirschbergweiher pond.

For a longer day hike, the Flötztal Trail is listed as an easy tour covering 15.3 kilometres, taking 4 hours 50 minutes, with 370 metres of elevation gain. It starts at the hiking car park between Ahornberg and Hölzlmühle in Immenreuth. The distances offer a clear comparison with the 5.7-kilometre relaxation hiking trail; the stated duration and elevation gain are additional factors to consider when planning the Flötztal Trail.

Forests, Ponds and Rocky Landscapes

On the north side of Tannenberg, the forest opens up to offer views across the Schilmbachtal valley towards Klausenberg and over to the Flötzrangen. The area around the Großer Hirschbergweiher and Haidweiher ponds, close to the destination, is a bird sanctuary. The ponds thus offer a different aspect of the landscape from the open views on Tannenberg.

Also nearby, on the Flötzbach stream, is the Rotenfels, a rock formation pierced by an arch. Iron was mined beneath the rock in the Middle Ages. Its shape and historical use add another cultural dimension to the landscape, without requiring an additional hiking route.

The Church of Christ and Regional Culture

The Church of Christ in Immenreuth was built in 1966; its freestanding bell tower is a defining feature of the building. Family services are currently held outdoors there on Easter Monday and Christmas Eve. If you plan to attend one of these services, check the details for the relevant occasion before your visit, as service times may change.

The broader destination of Tirschenreuth also offers cultural activities. In the MuseumsQuartier in Tirschenreuth, a former monastery houses the Upper Palatinate Fisheries Museum alongside six other specialist exhibitions. Visitors can explore almost 1,000 years of fishing and fish-farming history and see native fish in four large aquariums. Regular events include special exhibitions, talks, readings and concerts; individual dates may change.

At Fischhofpark in Tirschenreuth, the historic Fischhof Bridge and the Fischhof, the district court, are located in the centre. As for local cuisine, the Tirschenreuth district is best known for Zoigl, the cult beer of the Upper Palatinate Forest. It is also known for carp from the pond landscapes of the “Land of 1,000 Ponds”. These regional themes belong to Tirschenreuth and complement the hiking and landscape experiences in Immenreuth.

When searching for suitable accommodation, you can first consider what kind of trip you have in mind: the accessible, child-friendly loop, other hikes of varying lengths, or culture in the broader destination of Tirschenreuth. This lets you tailor your search to the experiences that matter for your trip.
