Mitterteich combines a distinctive brewing tradition with outdoor activities and a heated outdoor swimming pool. When planning a trip, you can consider whether the communal brewery, exercise at the Fit & Fun Park, swimming or a picnic should shape your stay. These different themes offer practical guidance when looking for accommodation in Mitterteich, without requiring you to follow any particular itinerary.

Brewing rights and local history

At the communal brewery in Mitterteich, every citizen has the right to brew beer. This is a distinctive part of the town’s character. Another historic landmark is the new brewery: it was built in 1864 in what is now the Vorstadt district, on the site of the former Gänsewiese. Brewing rights and the building’s history are two different ways to get to know Mitterteich. Brewing rights reflect a local tradition; the year and the former field name place the building’s history in context.

Fit & Fun Park: leisure activities and cycle route

The Fit & Fun Park in Mitterteich brings together a range of activities: a BMX pump track, a children’s playground with play equipment, a table tennis table, a streetball court, a skate area and a grass field for playing ball. The park makes it easy to compare which kinds of exercise or play might interest you during your stay. The park’s open space and the link to the cross-border Wallenstein Cycle Route along the railway track were created after the disused Wiesau–Waldsassen railway line was dismantled and Federal Highway 15 was rerouted. The park and route also represent a transformation of the former railway land.

Heated swimming pools at the outdoor pool

Mitterteich’s outdoor swimming pool is a leisure facility with heated pools. The pools differ in their features and dimensions: the swimming pool has 50-metre lanes, while the diving pool has 1-, 3- and 5-metre boards. There is also a non-swimmer pool with a 41-metre water slide. When planning your stay, you can choose between these areas based on your swimming and leisure interests. The specific pool features provide a more useful guide than a general impression of the facility. Seasonal operating information is separate; check it independently when planning your trip.

Picnics at two scenic spots

Mitterteich offers a dedicated picnic service: for groups of two or more, the Mitterteich Picnic Service delivers a picnic basket from Mitterteich Bakery to two scenic spots. Coordinate the arrangements with the town’s tourist information office. A picnic is therefore a different way to spend your time than exercising at the park or visiting the outdoor pool.

Tirschenreuth: museums, a park and regional cuisine

Tirschenreuth also offers its own themes to consider when planning a trip. At the MuseumsQuartier in Tirschenreuth, a former monastery houses the Upper Palatinate Fisheries Museum alongside six other specialized exhibitions. Visitors can explore nearly 1,000 years of fishing and fish farming history and see native fish in four large aquariums. The program regularly includes special exhibitions, lectures, readings and concerts; check the latest dates for individual events.

In the center of Fischhofpark in Tirschenreuth are the historic Fischhof Bridge and the Fischhof, which houses the district court. This offers a different focus for cultural exploration than the leisure activities in Mitterteich. Regional cuisine is another theme: Tirschenreuth district is best known culinarily for Zoigl, the cultural beer of the Upper Palatinate Forest. The district is also known for carp from the pond landscapes of the “Land of 1,000 Ponds.” These are associated with Tirschenreuth district and should not be confused with the specific attractions in Mitterteich.
