Siehdichum: Forests, Water and History
Accommodation in Siehdichum
Siehdichum combines a landscape shaped by forests and water with historic sites. Here, the Schlaube flows largely in its natural state through the GroĂźer Treppelsee, Hammersee and Schinkensee lakes. This means lakeside walks go hand in hand with insights into the history of the hamlet and its surroundings.
Discover Forests and Water
Beech, oak and hornbeam trees grow on the slopes around Siehdichum. Pines stand on the drier hilltops. These changing stands of trees give the landscape different accents, while the lakes and the course of the Schlaube provide a setting for outdoor excursions. A woodland walk around the historic hamlet of Siehdichum and the surrounding waters is recommended in every season.
For a specific walking route, consider a walk of about four kilometres, starting at the Siehdichum forester’s lodge. It follows a path along the shore through the forest and crosses a wooden bridge. The approximate length provides a guide for planning your day; trail conditions may change, so check them before setting out. Another walk by Hammersee passes the forester’s cemetery and the Siehdichum memorial stone.
Wildlife is also part of the landscape: kingfishers, great crested grebes and ospreys use the waters around Siehdichum to forage or court. There are also chances of spotting kingfishers and otters on the walk starting at the forester’s lodge. Wildlife sightings depend on the season and are not guaranteed.
Historic Sites and Stories
The name Siehdichum is associated with the phrase “Look around here,” attributed to Abbot Gabriel Dubau. One specific historic site is the hunting lodge “Jäger Hauß”: it was built in 1746 on the steep peninsula between the Schlaube and Hammersee. Beside Hammersee stands the historic complex of buildings known as Forsthaus Siehdichum, built between 1909 and 1922.
The municipality of Siehdichum also has historic architecture: the village church in Rießen is a listed half-timbered church. Its furnishings include a wooden altar dating from 1627. Hikers may also know the Schlaubetal hiking trail, which is classified as a “Quality Trail: Hiking in Germany.” If the designation matters to your plans, check that it is currently valid.
Plan Your Journey and Stay
One driving route from Berlin to Forsthaus Siehdichum goes via the A12 to the MĂĽllrose exit, then along the L37 and KupferhammerstraĂźe. Check current navigation before you travel, as road conditions and route information may change. The restaurant at Forsthaus Siehdichum serves regional dishes; check before visiting whether it is currently open.
If you mainly want to spend time outdoors, consider the forest and waterside paths described here. For a focus on cultural history, the church in RieĂźen, the memorial stone by Hammersee and the historic buildings provide specific points of interest. Compare the location and amenities of individual accommodations to suit your plans, rather than assuming a particular type of stay.
