Vogelsang combines its location in the Ziltendorfer Lowlands with memorial sites and cycling routes. As the southernmost municipality in the lowlands, the village brings together open landscapes, birdwatching and history. Depending on your interests, you can focus your stay on memorial sites, the natural surroundings or cycling—three perspectives that each shape a stay in Vogelsang in a different way.

Memorial Sites and Local History

A war memorial on Vogelsang’s village green commemorates 42 soldiers who fell in the First World War. During its restoration, a plaque listing 71 people who fell in the Second World War was added. The memorial on the village green thus extends its remembrance to those who fell in another war. The war memorial is considered a sight worth seeing.

A Soviet military cemetery in Vogelsang commemorates the battles of early 1945. An obelisk marks a mass grave of Soviet soldiers in Vogelsang’s cemetery. The Vogelsang war cemetery is located on Buchwaldweg in 15890 Vogelsang. Alongside the landscape, these memorial sites give local history a prominent place.

Ziltendorfer Lowlands: Nature and Outdoor Activities

Vogelsang is the southernmost municipality in the Ziltendorfer Lowlands. Nearby, the lowlands offer an accessible nature experience: a plain with numerous meadows and fields, crisscrossed by small streams and ditches. As a birdwatching area, it is also of interest to travelers who want to observe wildlife.

The ruins of a power plant are also nearby. It was completed shortly before the end of the Second World War but never went into operation; today, it provides a habitat for many animal species. Industrial history and nature meet here in an unusual way.

The lowlands include an accessible area for hiking, skating and cycling. Two routes are also linked to Vogelsang: the Oder-NeiĂźe Cycle Route passes through or along Vogelsang and the Ziltendorfer Lowlands, while the Oder-Schlaubetal Loop passes through Vogelsang. For travel to the Ziltendorfer Lowlands, the railway stations in Brieskow-Finkenheerd, Wiesenau and Ziltendorf make access easier. Alongside the memorial sites, nature and outdoor activities can therefore also be key themes of a stay in the area.
