Gäufelden between Art, Remembrance and Circular Routes
Accommodation in Gäufelden
Gäufelden appeals to travelers with a range of interests: in Nebringen, steel structures and studios define the Ackermann Sculpture Garden; in Tailfingen, a multimedia documentation room and a memorial are among the notable places of remembrance. Three circular routes on the Small Monuments Trail vary in length and starting point, while the Öschelbronn cycling stadium focuses on track training.
Art in Nebringen
Large steel structures, several studios and a decommissioned railway carriage are grouped together in the Ackermann Sculpture Garden in Gäufelden-Nebringen. Lutz Ackermann has been developing a Gesamtkunstwerk there for decades. The term draws attention to how the elements work together: the steel structures, studios and decommissioned carriage are part of a shared artistic concept.
Remembrance in Tailfingen
The documentation room of the Hailfingen-Tailfingen concentration camp memorial is located in the town hall in the center of Gäufelden-Tailfingen. The exhibition and memorial room was inaugurated on June 6, 2010. The multimedia exhibition is primarily intended for school classes with students aged 14 and over. Another, differently located form of remembrance is the memorial to the Hailfingen-Tailfingen subcamp: it is at the western end of the runway on the former airfield site and is accessible year-round. The forms of remembrance are therefore distinct: the town hall room is multimedia, while the memorial situates remembrance at the former airfield site.
Compare circular routes by length
You can directly compare the lengths and starting points of the three sections of the Gäufelden Small Monuments Trail. The Nebringen circular route is about 6 km long and starts at Nebringen station. In Öschelbronn, the approximately 3.5 km loop starts at the parking lot by the cemetery; the Tailfingen circular route is about 5 km long and starts at the parking lot behind the Bürgerhalle. All three are circular routes, but their stated lengths differ: the Öschelbronn section is the shortest, Nebringen the longest, and Tailfingen falls in between. Your choice therefore initially depends on the distance you want to cover; use the approximate lengths as a guide and check current local conditions before setting out.
A longer hiking option in the wider Böblingen destination
In the wider Böblingen destination, the Herzog-Jäger Trail in Waldenbuch offers a marked contrast to the Gäufelden circular routes: this premium hiking trail is 13.7 km long and features numerous highlights and hands-on activity stations.
Track training in Öschelbronn
At the Öschelbronn cycling stadium, RSV Öschelbronn offers open track training for everyone. The club’s sessions follow a regular schedule, except during school holidays. Check the current training times before your visit. In addition to the open club sessions, groups can arrange an individual time to use the cycling track. Ask the club about current availability and arrangements. Track training is clearly different from the circular routes on the Small Monuments Trail: here, the cycling track is the focus; there, you can choose from three walking loops.
