Discover Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl
Accommodation in Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl
Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl lies directly on the Rhine and is known for its winegrowing. Vineyards, Rhine floodplains and volcanic rock shape the cycling routes around the town; the bathing lake offers its own waterside highlight, while geology and history come together on the Limberg.
Cycling routes between vineyards and Rhine floodplains
Cycling routes around Sasbach connect vineyards, Rhine floodplains and volcanic rock. The cycle paths are well developed and signposted, and mostly run without steep climbs. Signposted routes begin just beyond the town centre, pass through vineyards and offer views across the Kaiserstuhl as far as the Vosges. The Rhine Cycle Route also runs through the floodplains west of Sasbach. This lets you take in different landscapes as you plan your day: vineyards on routes beyond the town centre and floodplains along the Rhine Cycle Route.
A break at Sasbach bathing lake
Sasbach bathing lake is located in the Rhine floodplain forest near the sports facilities and can be reached on foot or by bicycle. It covers 11 hectares, of which 2.2 hectares are designated as a bathing area. Large sunbathing lawns offer space to relax and picnic, and the lake also has a shallow-water area suitable for children. It is freely accessible all year round. Alongside the cycling tours, it offers a dedicated waterside destination for an outing—with room for a longer break on the sunbathing lawn or time in the designated bathing area.
Geology and history on the Limberg
The 6.2-kilometre Limberg nature trail was established in 1977 by the municipality of Sasbach and the district of Emmendingen. It leads to quarries and geological outcrops, where the rocks of the Limberg and their geological context are explained. The route also reaches the remains of an ancient Celtic rampart. More than 90 information boards cover volcanism, wine, forests, water and history. The trail brings together a range of topics along one route and makes a suitable destination for anyone who wants not only to admire the landscape but also to explore its geological and historical traces.
Chapel, church and winegrowers’ festival
The town’s history can also be seen in specific buildings and events. The Litzelberg pilgrimage chapel was built in the 17th century, substantially enlarged in 1752 and given its present appearance at that time. St. Martin’s Church in Sasbach was consecrated in 1749. Sasbach’s winegrowers’ festival takes place every two years in mid-August; if you want to plan your trip around it, check the current festival dates in advance.
Sasbach is part of the Naturgarten Kaiserstuhl network. Spanning more than 15 towns, the network connects themed trails, cycling routes through vineyards and events such as cabaret and wine festivals. This adds a broader perspective on the region to Sasbach’s specific attractions without replacing what makes the town distinctive.
Consider accommodation and travel together
Sasbach has its own railway station and public transport connections. When choosing accommodation based on the activities you have planned, you can focus on different options: cycling routes through vineyards and floodplains, a day at the bathing lake or the topics covered by the Limberg nature trail. For specific journeys, it is advisable to check the current timetable. This allows you to take your travel group’s interests into account when planning, without letting any one outing determine the entire stay.
