Accommodation in Neuhausen auf den Fildern
Hiking trails in the Sauhag, extensive orchards and the long history of Neuhausen’s Fasnet offer tangible starting points for your stay in Neuhausen auf den Fildern.
Filder Landscape and Trails
Neuhausen auf den Fildern is located in the Filder nature region within the Swabian Keuper-Lias Hills. The Sauhag nature reserve and extensive orchards contribute to the area’s recreational appeal. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, these offer a connection to the local landscape as well as to the individual hiking routes.
In the Sauhag area, the Neuhausen/Fildern branch of the Swabian Alb Association has marked four circular hiking trails. Circular Trail A is a flat 3.5-kilometer route, which takes an estimated hour. Along the way, it passes a burial mound and a Jupiter column. Its short distance and two historic stops give this loop its own character.
Circular Trail C is 7 kilometers long and features gentle climbs. A viewpoint and a place to stop for refreshments at the Lindenhof are among the route’s features. At 7 kilometers, Trail C falls between Circular Trail A and the Anniversary Circular Trail J, which is 10.5 kilometers long and has 125 meters of elevation gain. The Anniversary Circular Trail J showcases the variety and beauty of the local landscape. This gives you a choice of shorter and longer routes, each with different highlights.
Circular Trail D covers 11 kilometers with gentle climbs. Stops along the way include Waldhauser Castle, an information board about the history of the forest and a Roman Temple of Mercury. This tour therefore combines nature and history along its route. Check the local signage before hiking, as route details may change. Refreshment options on Circular Trail C may also change.
Fasnet and Historic Traces
Neuhausen’s Fasnet has a history spanning more than 560 years; the first mention of Carnival in Neuhausen dates back to 1447. This early date gives the local tradition a long historical background, without requiring you to plan your trip around a specific festival date.
A tower from the former castle and fortress complex is freely accessible, in addition to the lower castle area. Access conditions may change, so check them before your visit. The tower offers another historical point of interest, alongside the landmarks on the hiking trails.

The Wider Region: Esslingen District
Six distinct landscapes shape the overall character of Esslingen District: Schurwald, Schönbuch, Filder, Neckar Valley, the Alb foothills and the Alb escarpment. The district’s orchard landscape also shapes its scenery and includes 1.5 million fruit trees. In addition, Esslingen District’s towns and communities offer sights, local attractions and traditional festivals. These regional connections complement a visit to Neuhausen without attributing the district’s landscapes and attractions to the town alone.
