Wangen lies on the edge of the eastern Schurwald, amid an open landscape of fruit trees, meadows, fields and open countryside. A route from Oberwälden leads to Oberwälder See and offers views of the Albtrauf along the way. The view over the panorama of the Swabian Alb also opens up from the Wangen Linden tree. The surrounding area brings together scenic impressions, paths through orchards and woodland, and local traditions.

Trails and Views

Oberwälden has short and longer circular trails along orchards or through the forest. They cross mostly flat terrain. Depending on how far you want to go and what kind of scenery you prefer, you can choose a shorter or longer loop and alternate between orchards and forest. The circular trail to the Wangen Linden tree is one of three uniformly signposted hiking routes in Wangen. From the linden tree, the view stretches across the Swabian Alb; the trails through orchards and woodland offer a different scenic experience.

An information pavilion in Oberwälden stands along the cycling route through the eastern Schurwald and provides information for hikers and cyclists. It also helps visitors find their bearings as they explore the landscape in different ways. Those travelling on foot can choose between shorter and longer circular trails, while cyclists can follow the route through the Schurwald.

Baking Traditions and Regional Cuisine

The Backhäusle in Oberwälden is a local attraction associated with traditional wood-fired bread. The Gasthaus Lamm in Oberwälden has also been family-owned since 1897. It is known for sausage salad and traditional Vesper dishes, and also makes wood-fired bread and apple cider from apples grown in its own orchard. Together, these offer both a local attraction and specific foods and drinks that reflect regional traditions.

This makes for a day that combines outdoor activity with culinary experiences. The trails pass through orchards or forest, while the viewpoints open up views across the Swabian Alb and the Albtrauf. The Backhäusle and the cuisine at the Gasthaus Lamm offer a different focus: local baking and food culture, rather than another hiking route.
