Forst: History, Water and Lively Places
Accommodation in Forst
Forst brings together a range of interests when planning a holiday: history, a wide-ranging cultural programme, water and outdoor activities. Jägerhaus brings the town’s history to life; Kirchplatz, Heidesee and the area around Waldseehalle each offer different cultural and active highlights. When choosing your accommodation, consider which of these themes you want to shape your stay and which way of getting here suits you.
History and Culture in Forst
Jägerhaus was built in 1747 as a two-storey princely forester’s residence. A listed monument, it is connected to Forst’s historic relationship with the Lußhardt Forest. Its construction date and original purpose give the building a tangible link to the history of the forest. Jägerhaus has nine rooms and around 1,000 square metres of usable space for social events.
The cultural programme is organised by the local music and arts school, the local history and culture association, and local clubs. This shared responsibility brings a range of local groups together in a broad programme. For culture lovers, these events complement the historic buildings with a glimpse of today’s club and cultural life.
Kirchplatz: Market, Water and Art
Kirchplatz offers several clear points of interest for a visit. A weekly market takes place there on Wednesdays and Saturdays. At the centre of the square is a water feature covering just under 100 square metres. There is also a three-part stone sculpture by Forst artist Ulla Steiner. The market, water feature and sculpture each make their own statement: everyday life, design and public art.
Heidesee and Waldsee: Relaxing by the Water
Heidesee leisure park includes a three-lane water slide measuring 225 metres in total. Other facilities listed there include a beach volleyball court and a children’s paddling pool. Waldsee and Heidesee are gravel-pit lakes used by residents and visitors for recreation. The facilities cater to different ways of enjoying the water: playing volleyball, splashing around or relaxing by a gravel-pit lake.
Outdoor Activities around Waldseehalle
The area around Waldseehalle has two playgrounds for children of different ages. There is also a floodlit small-sided sports pitch with goals and basketball hoops, a skateboard half-pipe and table tennis tables. The options range from play areas and ball sports to skateboarding and table tennis. If you are planning some active time outdoors, this area offers a different focus from a stay centred on culture or the water.
Barbecue Hut and Practical Information
For events, Forst’s barbecue hut offers 240 square metres of covered space for up to 150 people. Facilities include a fire pit, a Gaucho grill and on-site toilets. The hut can be rented through Forst municipal customer services. It complements the smaller cultural and sporting activities with an option for group events.
Forst is conveniently located close to the A5 and is connected to long-distance rail services via Bruchsal station. The Karlsruhe Transport Association’s network strengthens local public transport connections. Plan your journey according to whether your priority is the connection via Bruchsal, local public transport or the location near the motorway.
For a stay in Forst, the highlights can be grouped as follows: Jägerhaus and Kirchplatz for history and culture, Heidesee and Waldsee for relaxing by the water, and Waldseehalle for play and outdoor activities.
