In the Kraichgau hills, extensive forests, vineyards and traditional orchards shape the landscape of Östringen. Nature, trails, regional wine culture, and architectural and art history give the town many different sides. When looking for a place to stay, you can start by considering what you want your holiday to focus on: hiking trails, exploring the water, or historic and cultural sites.

Geo-trails and paths around Östringen

The geo-trail network comprises two routes with different itineraries. The Brunnenweg circles Östringen and is approximately 13 kilometres long. The Hügelweg runs from Odenheim via Eichelberg and Tiefenbach. For geo-trail excursions, buses connect Eichelberg and Tiefenbach back to Odenheim. This means the named places and the return journey can be taken into account together when planning. Road connections for travelling to the area include the B 292 federal highway and the A 5 and A 6 motorways.

Sulphur spring and Kreuzbergsee

The sulphur spring is in Krummbachwald, about 500 metres north of Östringen. It is open to the public, and visitors can sample the water free of charge. Another way to include trails in your day’s plans is the Kreuzbergsee recreation area in Östringen’s Tiefenbach district, where walking and cycling paths run around the lake. Alongside the geo-trails, there are paths by the water to explore on foot or by bike.

Art, church architecture and monastic history

The Gustav Wolf Art Gallery is dedicated to the artistic legacy of Gustav Wolf, a Jewish painter, graphic artist, etcher and lithographer. The gallery regularly hosts temporary exhibitions by contemporary artists. This makes it a different cultural destination from the town’s architectural and monastic heritage. St. Cäcilia Parish Church is a church built in 1895 in the Romanesque Revival style. Its peal comprises seven bells, including two historic Baroque bells cast in 1709.

Remains of the former Wigoldesberg monastery complex, which dates back to the 12th century, have been preserved at Stifterhof. Two nearby defensive towers indicate the former extent of the monastery complex. The surviving remains and towers offer a tangible connection to the area’s medieval history, while St. Cäcilia represents a later chapter in its architectural history.

Winegrowing in Tiefenbach

The Heitlinger VDP winery is located in the vineyards of Tiefenbach. It cultivates just over 100 hectares of vineyards, mostly biodynamically. The size of the vineyard area and the methods used may change over time. Winegrowing adds another theme to the trails and cultural sites that shapes the landscape around Östringen.

The wider area: Karlsruhe

In the wider Karlsruhe destination, the landscape of Karlsruhe district extends from the Rhine plain in the west, across the hills of the Kraichgau in the east, to the foothills of the northern Black Forest in the south. Cycling holidays offer another option in this wider area: the district’s cycling network covers more than 1,500 kilometres. Its total length may change as the infrastructure develops.
