Discover Lörrach: Art, Democracy and Three-Country History
Accommodation in Lörrach
Discover Lörrach through art in public spaces, political history and its setting in a three-country region. Its diverse themes offer different ways to experience the city: you can admire works of art on a stroll, follow a route that spans a broad historical period or explore an exhibition. The wine trails on Tüllinger Berg also reveal another side of this destination.
Art and the history of democracy in the city centre
The Lörrach Sculpture Trail invites you to discover 24 works of art on a stroll through the city centre. They include fountains and sculptures in the pedestrian zone, among them works by internationally renowned artists. This makes a walk through the city an opportunity to enjoy its art.
The City Trail of the History of Democracy offers a different perspective. Its 14 stops lead through Lörrach city centre and cover a broad period, from the 1848/49 Revolution to the present day. Unlike the Sculpture Trail, which focuses on artworks in public spaces, this trail centres on historical developments and the history of democracy. If both topics appeal to you, you can explore them as distinct perspectives on Lörrach.
Three-country history and culture
The Three-Country Exhibition explores the history and present of the three-country region in German and French. The Three-Country Museum in Lörrach has a permanent exhibition covering around 1,000 square metres. The tour through the history of the three-country region leads to the Future Footbridge; on the top floor, the Camera Obscura offers a spectacular view of Lörrach city centre.
The Burghof Lörrach is another cultural highlight. As a cultural and event centre, its programme includes singing and music, dance, cabaret, literature and children's theatre. The Burghof Lörrach GmbH stages the international STIMMEN Festival there. During the summer months, open-air theatre performances are held at Rötteln Castle ruins. The ruins offer panoramic views from both towers. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival or performance, check the dates for your preferred period in advance.
Lörrach’s history also includes its weekly market, which has been held since 1403. Together with the history of democracy and the Three-Country Exhibition, it shows how varied Lörrach’s historical and cultural points of interest are. Each topic has its own focus, rather than offering the same way to experience the city.
Wine trails and Lörrach’s location
Lörrach lies in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg, in the Markgräflerland region, right on the Swiss border and close to the neighbouring city of Basel. Tüllinger Berg offers another way to experience the destination. From Lörrach-Tüllingen, the Tüllinger Wine Trail connects the Riehen Wine Trail with the Weil Wine Trail. The linked trails pass through around 90 hectares of vineyards, including the “Riehener Schlipfer”, “Tüllinger Sonnenbrunnen”, “Weiler Schlipf”, “Haltinger Stiege” and “Ötlinger Sonnhole” vineyard sites. The Tüllinger Wine Trail offers views over the Wiesental and Rhine valleys and insights into the work of local winegrowers throughout the year.
This selection provides a starting point for your accommodation search in Lörrach without requiring you to give equal weight to all your travel interests.
