Berghaupten lies on the western edge of the Black Forest, at the entrance to the Kinzig Valley and among vineyards, meadows and forests. The landscape provides a distinctive setting for the town: you can take longer walks or set off into the Black Forest mountains on well-signposted hiking trails and mountain bike routes. This makes it possible to combine Berghaupten with both peaceful walks through the countryside and more active outings.

Hiking trails, water and Klingelhalde

Klingelhalde offers a specific starting point for outdoor activities. Its forest car park serves as a starting point for hikes. The recreation area also has a water-treading facility and a water play area for children—two different ways to include water in your visit. Whether you would rather spend the day hiking or taking a break by the water depends not only on the landscape but also on your interests.

The mining and local history museum is housed in the mill building at Klingelhalde. There is step-free access to the museum from the car park. Guided tours are available on request; if you are planning a guided visit, be sure to request one. Before travelling, also check the accessibility details that matter to you. At Klingelhalde, nature and local history come together.

Regional dining and farm shop

The culinary offerings also have different points of focus. Brennstub-StrauĂźe has a terrace overlooking the vineyards and serves homemade Flammkuchen, farm-style cold platters, wine and cider. Offerings and opening periods may change, so check what is currently available before visiting. This lets you enjoy a meal with a view of the landscape without needing to plan for a particular time of year.

Armbrusters Hof combines a farm shop, herb garden and distillery building. The farm shop sells spirits, liqueurs, herbs and gifts; the selection may change. If you would like to discover regional products, you will find a different focus here than at the Strauße: shopping and herbs take centre stage rather than a meal. Sägereck-Hütte is freely available for public use; there is no barbecue area there. Before using it, check the applicable conditions and local fire-safety regulations.

Berghaupten as a starting point for planning your trip

The local offerings provide various options without requiring you to limit your stay to just one activity. What matters is which of these interests you would like to focus on during your trip.

More perspectives on the Ortenau district

The Ortenau district lies between the Rhine and the Black Forest. It has 23 nature reserves covering a total area of around 3,110 hectares, stretching from the Rhine plain to the higher elevations of the Black Forest. For a different kind of experience, Rulantica offers year-round water-based fun for the whole family, with numerous indoor and outdoor water attractions. The experience area also includes Hyggedal, a relaxation and sauna area. The Vogtsbauernhof Open-Air Museum offers a historical and cultural contrast: a walk through its historic farmhouses shows how people lived and worked in the Black Forest up to 600 years ago. These regional attractions can complement your plans if you would like to explore interests beyond Berghaupten.
