Discover Bühlertal: Rock, Water and Wine Traditions
Accommodation in Bühlertal
Open rock formations, individual vine plantings and the Gertelbach Waterfalls reveal different sides of Bühlertal. The area also has the Geiserschmiede, whose origins date back to the 16th century, as well as annual wine fairs and wine-hiking days. When planning your stay, you can choose between landscapes, local history and recurring events.
Rock, Vines and Waterfalls
The AugenBlick loop trail in Bühlertal runs through Engelsberg. There, open rock formations and characteristic individual vine plantings are among the defining landscape features. Along the trail, you’ll encounter two very different sights: striking rock formations and individually planted vines. The Gertelbach Waterfalls add another natural highlight. In total, they descend 330 metres.
The end of the AugenBlick loop trail also offers a practical option for planning your next activity in summer: you can cool off at the Bühlot outdoor pool or visit the Nature Park Info Shop. The season matters; these options are specifically described for summer.
If you would rather focus on the landscape than on an event programme, the loop trail and the waterfalls offer two different themes for your stay. The trail links Engelsberg, rock formations and vine plantings along a named route. The waterfalls stand out as a natural feature, with a total elevation difference of 330 metres.
Local History and Wine Events
The history of the Geiserschmiede dates back to the 16th century. This gives Bühlertal a historic dimension alongside its natural landscapes. The town also has a role in the Black Forest Central/North Nature Park: Bühlertal is a gateway community for the nature park and the location of its administrative office. Nature, local history and the town’s institutional connection to the nature park are distinct aspects of the destination.
Wine is also part of the recurring events calendar: Bühlertal hosts annual wine fairs and wine-hiking days. If you want to plan your trip around one of these events, check the dates in advance. These events offer a possible focus that differs from exploring the landscape or learning about local history.
Getting There and Choosing Accommodation
Bus routes 263 and 264 run regularly from Bühl railway station to Bühlertal. Possible stops in Bühlertal are Schwimmbad and Post. As timetables may change, it’s worth checking the current schedule before travelling. If you’re arriving by car, parking is available at Bühlotbad, by the tourist information office and on Laubenstraße.
These stops and parking areas give you specific points to use when planning your journey. Then choose accommodation in a location that suits your plans.
More to Explore in the Wider Rastatt Destination
The wider Rastatt destination offers a distinct perspective on cultural history. The Rastatt City Museum is housed in a Baroque town palace opposite the Residenzschloss. Its permanent exhibitions cover Rastatt’s history over the past 300 years, as well as prehistory and early history. Rastatt Palace was the first Baroque residence built on German soil and was modelled on Versailles.
Schloss Favorite is another distinctive cultural attraction in the wider Rastatt destination: it is the oldest and only German porcelain palace to have been preserved in its original form. The Memorial Site for the Freedom Movements in German History traces developments and democratic traditions from the early modern period to the present day. Exhibits, models, images, caricatures and contemporary texts illustrate the revolutionary struggle of men and women across Germany in 1848/49, which ended with the fall of Rastatt Fortress.
