Forbach brings together distinctive places along the Murg with forest and upland landscapes. The municipality’s landmark is its covered historic wooden bridge; crossing it is free of charge. The third stage of the Westweg trail runs from the historic wooden bridge across the Murg through Forbach’s old town. This brings a striking structure and a long-distance hiking route together at a clearly identifiable location—a concrete starting point if you want to discover Forbach through its landscape and local history.

Forest, Exhibition and Getting There

In Forbach’s district of Herrenwies, the National Park Centre is located directly on the L83. It has a permanent exhibition about people and their history with the forest. From Tuesday to Sunday, visitors can get hiking tips and information about the national park at the information desk. Check the current opening hours before setting out. Free parking is available at the centre; bus route 263 reaches it several times a day from Bühl and Forbach/Hundsbach.

Another landscape highlight is the Schwarzenbach Reservoir. It lies at an altitude of almost 700 metres and is surrounded by fir and spruce forests. It can be reached on KVV bus route 263 from Forbach, Bühl and the Black Forest High Road. Check the current bus connections before travelling. While the National Park Centre focuses on the history of people and the forest, the reservoir’s landscape is shaped by its elevation and surrounding coniferous forests.

Bermersbach: Meadows, Views and Trails

Above Bermersbach, the Ebet and Wulzenberg valleys rise steeply. They are examples of meadows traditionally mown in the region, with characteristic hay huts. The Giersteine also stand near Bermersbach, on an exposed hilltop; they are a viewpoint. The meadows and hilltop offer different perspectives on the district’s surroundings.

The Bermersbach GlĂĽcksweg is a family-friendly trail designed especially for children. A small salamander figure accompanies visitors, and animal figures can be spotted along the way. The Ziegenpfad has a different practical focus: it is signposted throughout, partly crosses pastures and is not suitable for pushchairs. The presence of grazing animals varies by season. When comparing the two trails, the specific differences can help: animal motifs and a particular focus on children on the GlĂĽcksweg, and the pushchair restriction and sections across pastures on the Ziegenpfad.

Local History in Bermersbach

The Murgtal Museum was founded in 1986 as the “Murgtäler Dorfmuseum” (Murgtal Village Museum) in Bermersbach’s former schoolhouse. Its former name and the schoolhouse give its founding a clear connection to the local area. Together with the historic wooden bridge, the museum offers another way to explore Forbach’s history, while the exhibition in Herrenwies focuses on the history of people and the forest.

Choose Accommodation to Suit Your Plans

When looking for accommodation in Forbach, your preferred focus may influence your choice of location: would you like to make the bridge and old town your priority, explore the forest theme in Herrenwies, or set aside time for Bermersbach’s trails and viewpoint? Check the location of a specific place to stay against the sights you plan to visit. That way, you can base your choice on the experiences that matter for your trip, rather than combining different places and interests into a single outing.
